Arnold Schwarzenegger looks no closer to making The Legend Of Conan or Triplets from where we’re sitting, as whilst those two projects stumble along in limbo, he’s taking on a different action comedy instead.
Taran Killam, of Saturday Night Live fame, is making his directorial debut with Why We’re Killing Gunther, based on a screenplay that he wrote himself. He’s also going to co-star in the film along with The Avengers’ Cobie Smulders, and Arnold Schwarzenegger fits in as Gunther, described as ‘the world’s greatest hitman’.
It’ll be Arnie’s first full-on comedy role since 1996’s Junior, and production on Why We’re Killing Gunther is set to kick off this June. We’d expect a release next year.

Meet the films sequels that might not be dead, but are certainly stuck in some kind of limbo...
Every now and then, a sequel that appears to have been in the cooker for a while – Zoolander 2, Dumb And Dumber To, Anchorman 2 – finally escapes into the wild. But the journey to the screen can be a very lengthy one, and this little lot are still trying to find their way to your local multiplex…
Disney gambled hard on bringing Dick Tracy to the screen in the summer of 1990, backing the vision of director and star Warren Beatty, and hoping to ape the success that Warner Bros had enjoyed the summer before with Batman. Yet whilst Dick Tracy hit, it didn’t hit too hard. The studio adjusted its-then blockbuster strategy accordingly, and it wouldn’t really be until it got to the likes of »
One of the things I enjoyed most from my entire time at Ain't It Cool News was when we reached story #10,000 and I decided to do something special. I wrote a piece about what was at that point my most anticipated potential project, a collaboration between the Wachowskis and John Milius, King Conan: Crown Of Iron, a sequel to what I still consider one of the best films Arnold Schwarzenegger ever made. That was still before Schwarzenegger disappeared into political office for a while, and well before his comeback. So far, I've enjoyed some of the original films he's done since his return like The Last Stand and Sabotage, but I can't say I'm enjoying his sequel work. I thought Terminator Genisys was genuinely dire, and I don't like any of the Expendables movies. I hate the idea of Triplets, which Josh Gad is writing and which sounds like it's still in development. »

Arnold Schwarzenegger visited the UK last week and did a Q+A at two separate events in both Edinburgh and Birmingham, and at the former, the legendary actor spoke about plans for an upcoming Conan sequel, which was previously called The Legend Of Conan. It seems that the film may have had a name change. So what is it now?
“Conan the Conqueror,” said Arnold, “where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story Will be told and that movie Will be done.”
The Arnold Fans, who bagged the scoop, said that he and writer/ director Chris Morgan are “are meeting with directors at this moment. Interest is high, many are fans of Conan, but we are not rushing. We have a great script and now we need the »

The Legend Of Conan is now Conan The Conqueror, it seems. And the script is done...
Even though last summer's Terminator Genisys fell hard critically, commercially is still did okay-ish business, grossing over $400m at the worldwide box office. That said, it's been a long, long time now since Arnold Schwarzenegger's name equated to box office gold, and we suspect that may have something to do with how long the mooted new Conan film is taking to get here.
Schwarzenegger has actually been in the UK over the past week, for 'Experience With Arnold Schwarzenegger' events (help yourself) in Birmingham and Edinburgh. And according to The Arnold Fans, the Conan sequel question has come up.
