After years of churning out mediocre-at-best rom coms, horror flicks and triad yarns, Hong Kong's foremost schlockmeister, Wong Jing, teams up with producer Andrew Lau and star Chow Yun Fat to deliver his best film in ages. Charting the rise and fall of real-life gangster Cheng Daqi, The Last Tycoon spans three decades in battle-strewn Shanghai. In 1913, young Cheng (Huang Xiaoming) murders a dirty cop at the behest of shady soldier Mao Zai (Francis Ng) and flees to Shanghai, while his sweetheart Zhiqiu (Feng Wenjuan) heads to Beijing to study opera. Once there, Cheng quickly allies himself with corrupt police chief Hong Shouting (Sammo Hung) and rises through the ranks of his gang. The film leaps backwards and forwards repeatedly between these early days and the »
When i go into a Chow Yun Fat movie, the first thing i think is “How many people will he kill in this movie”, the guy is just the greatest when it comes to Gun play movies.
Chow was born in Hong Kong, to a mother who was a cleaning lady and vegetable farmer, and a father who worked on a Shell Oil Company tanker. Of Hakka origins, he grew up in a farming community on Lamma Island in a house with no electricity.
He woke up at dawn each morning to help his mother sell herbal jelly and Hakka tea-pudding on the streets and in the afternoons he went to work in the fields.

The Last Tycoon brings together 2 of the biggest names in Hong Kong cinema, Sammo Hung and Chow Yun Fat. For the very first time, these 2 giants will share screen time together in a new gangsta movie directed by Wong Jing and produced by Andy Lau.
The movie is based on the story of real life crime boss Du Yuesheng, who ruled the Shangai underworld during the 1920′s and 30′s. This is a movie i am really looking forward to seeing, Sammo is such a legend and always puts in great performances and the same goes for Chow Yun Fat also.
Enjoy the latest pictures from the movie and underneath is the latest trailer for the movie also.
The movie is set for a December release.
The first trailer for Wong Jing's upcoming gangster epic, The Last Tycoon, hit Distribution Workshop's Facebook page just moments ago, and goes some way to dispelling doubts over whether or not the man can still deliver - because, frankly put, it looks pretty awesome. Chow Yun Fat and Huang Xiaoming play the older and younger versions of notorious Shanghai mobster Du Yuesheng, who had close ties with Chiang Kai Shek and the Kmt, in this 1920s-set period actioner. Andrew Lau is on board as a producer, and Sammo Hung, Francis Ng, Yolanda Yuan, Yuan Li and Monica Mok round out the cast. I'm suddenly a whole lot more excited about this one! »
Wong Jing’s, “The Last Tycoon” is coming soon. I’m not sure if it will hit the states with a proper release, but maybe with Chow Yun Fat headlining and Sammo Hung in it as well, someone might pick it up for Us distribution. But for those of us who can’t wait, the DVD/Blu-Ray should be available shortly after theatrical release. The film is an epic, chronicling the rise of Cheng from 1917 through the 1930′s to become a mob boss in Shanghai »
