New Guillermo Arriaga, Punisher Shorts to Open HollyShorts Fest (Exclusive)

The ninth annual HollyShorts Film Festival will open on Aug. 15 with "Zero Hour," a film written by "Babel" and "21 Grams" screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga and directed by his protégé Dan Carrillo Levy, and will also feature an opening-night screening of "Punisher: Dirty Laundry," directed by Phil Joanou ("Three O'Clock High," "Rattle and Hum") and starring Thomas Jane, HollyShorts organizers told TheWrap on Tuesday. Zero Hour to open Hollyshorts

HollyShorts has announced that Dan Carrillo Levy’s Zero Hour will open the 9th annual HollyShorts Film Festival on Aug 15. 

Thomas Jane and Phil Joanou will also screen the short Punisher: Dirty Laundry.

Zero Hour, starring Camilla Belle and Jaime Camil, centres on a young couple who take a fateful road trip. Oscar nominee Guillermo Arriaga wrote the screenplay.

Punisher: Dirty Laundry, written by Chad St John and directed by Phil Joanou, will also make its big screen debut after a long presence on the internet.  Dirty Laundry is an unofficial Punisher short film described as a “love letter for all Frank Castle and Punisher fans.”

“Dan Carillo Levy is a next-generation visionary filmmaker and we couldn’t be more pleased that he’s chosen HollyShorts as the platform to showcase Zero Hour,” said festival co-founders and co-directors Daniel Sol and Theo Dumont.

Palm Springs ShortFest announces line-up

Work featuring Cate Blanchett, Elle Fanning, Ian McKellen, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson and Hugo Weaving will be on show at the 2013 Palm Springs International ShortFest & Short Film Market, set to run from Jun 18-24.

Now in its 19th year, ShortFest will showcase 330 films including 70 world premieres, 55 North American premieres and 14 Us premieres as films arrive from 49 countries.

The line-up includes Jason Ritter in Boats Against The Current (USA), the voice of Rachel Griffiths in Butterflies (Australia), the voice of Cate Blanchett in the North American premiere of A Cautionary Tale (Australia), Ian McKellen in the world premiere of The Egg Trick (UK), Christopher Eccleston and Felicity Jones in the world premiere of Emily (UK) and Gerard Depardieu in Frank-Etienne (France).
