'Broad City' Creators Team With Paul Feig For New Fox Comedy

9 May 2015 2:07 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

"Broad City" is among the few comedy shows on TV at the moment I wish I could say I've seen more. The Comedy Central show, especially from what little I've seen from this past second season, is among the most assured, quick and lively on the tube today, and seems only more confident and in tune with itself as it continues. This is thanks to stars/creators Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. The former web stars have a unique and dynamic voice, one that's relatable and yet distinct enough to stand out among their peers. Now, hopefully, they can transition this from the web/TV to the big screen, as they sign on alongside Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) for a new comedy at 20th Century Fox, based on Glazer and Jacobson's untitled comedy pitch. Details are limited now, but it is known Glazer and Jacobson are only on board thus far as writers. »

Why Paul Feig Is 'Dead Serious' About 'Spy' (Plus, an Exclusive Sneak Peek)

7 May 2015 6:00 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

For some reason, 2015 is the year of the spy spoof.

Earlier this year we got "Kingsman: The Secret Service," which turned out to be something of a surprise hit (especially given its brand new IP and R-rating) and on June 5th comes "Spy," the latest collaboration between director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy (this is their third, after the hugely successful "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat").

"Spy" turns the espionage thriller on its head; instead of a slick male agent, we get McCarthy's bumbling office drone who's recruited after a Bond-ish spy (Jude Law) gets killed in the field. It could be dopey and crass, but Feig treats the material seriously and gets genuinely inspired performances out of a varied cast that includes Rose Byrne and, surprisingly enough, Jason Statham.

"Spy" premiered at this year's South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, where we sat down with Feig to discuss »

Ridley Scott’s The Martian Highlight of 20th Century Fox’s CinemaCon 2015 Event

Following the exciting presentation at CinemaCon last week, 20th Century Fox released some new details for their upcoming releases. Check out the official synopses along with some photos for all their 2015 and 2016 films.

The highlight of the event was the must-see film of 2015 – Ridley Scott’s The Martian.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, Nasa and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, »

20th Century Fox Developing 'Play-Doh' Movie, Paul Feig May Direct

3 April 2015 6:58 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

After the success of The Lego Movie, it seems studios are interested in adapting toys and properties known for their limitless imagination for the big screen. There's a Minecraft movie in development at Warner Bros. and now Deadline reports 20th Century Fox has struck a deal with Hasbro to mold a live-action film based on Play-Doh, the colorful modeling clay that kids have played with for decades so much that the brand name has actually become the descriptor for the object itself. In addition, Bridemaids director and The Peanuts Movie producer Paul Feig is in talks to direct the film scripted by Butter scribe Jason Micallef. It's hard to write this idea off completely considering what happened with The Lego Movie after many were cynical and skeptical about the studio developing a movie around a toy that had no story attached to its legacy. However, lightning rarely strikes twice, and »

Lucy Is Still an Unlicensed Psychiatrist in New The Peanuts Movie Image

1 April 2015 11:41 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

20th Century Fox has released a new The Peanuts Movie image, and it’s another sign that the film will stick closely to the charm and personality of Charles Schulz’ comic strip. Directed by Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who!) and produced by Paul Feig, the story follows “the little round-headed boy with the indomitable optimism on a quest to get something he’s sure he needs, even though he discovers he’s pretty Ok just as he is.” Knowing Lucy and Charlie Brown’s relationship, it’s unlikely that the positive reinforcement is coming from her unless you see constantly taking a football away as tough love. Paul Feig Talks Spy, Jason Statham, and Test Screenings

26 March 2015 6:44 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When a big movie studio is willing to show a film months before its release, they know they have the goods. That was definitely the case when 20th Century Fox world premiered writer-director Paul Feig’s comedy Spy at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.  The potential franchise-starter features Melissa McCarthy as Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst who goes into the field for the very first time after her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid. Loaded with an all-star cast (Jason StathamRose ByrneMiranda HartBobby CannavaleAllison JanneyPeter Serafinowicz, and Morena Baccarin), one of the main reasons Spy is so great is that each supporting character has a moment to shine, and Statham completely knocks it out of the park in his first big studio comedy. During the premiere, the crowd was laughing so loud I missed lines of dialogue between Statham and McCarthy. Trust me, »

Peanuts Is Not Anything Like Space Jam, In Case You Were Wondering

In the event that you were worried about Paul Feig ruining another part of your childhood (and we.re not talking about his Ghostbusters reboot), have no fear. The Bridesmaids helmer is producing The Peanuts Movie for director Steve Martino, and he assures us that we won.t be having a repeat of Space Jam. In other words, it won.t be a completely modernized interpretation.  Speaking with Collider at SXSW in promotion of his latest film with Melissa McCarthy, Spy, Feig spoke a bit about what we can expect from The Peanuts Movie. It.s very sweet. It.s totally a G-rated movie, because you can.t get edgy with Charlie Brown. That was the Schulz family.s fear, that me and Fox everybody were gonna come in and hip it up and cast Justin Bieber as Charlie Brown and have it like Space Jam or something. All of »

"Peanuts" Film To Be Very Faithful

19 March 2015 6:14 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Though filmmaker Paul Feig is best known for female-centric R-rated comedies like "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat," he's also onboard as producer of the 3D CGI animated feature film adaptation of Charles M. Schulz's beloved "Peanuts" comic at 20th Century Fox.

One fear fans have had about the film is if the classic cartoon characters would undergo a "modern makeover" to cater to contemporary audiences more ala "The Smurfs" or films like "Space Jam". Speaking with Collider at SXSW, Feig says those fans have no need to fear:

"It's very sweet. It's totally a G-rated movie, because you can't get edgy with Charlie Brown. That was the Schulz family's fear, that me and Fox everybody were gonna come in and hip it up and cast Justin Bieber as Charlie Brown and have it like Space Jam or something. Charles M. Schulz's beloved Peanuts comic strip characters are finally coming to life on the big screen later this year with The Peanuts Movie, a 3D CGI animated comedy from 20th Century Fox, director Steve Martino and producer Paul Feig, who is best known for his edgy comedies such as Bridesmaids and the upcoming Spy, in theaters May 22.
