What really pushes VHS 2 over VHS is a certain dark sense of humor which is present in the movie. The movie does take itself seriously but no so much so that it becomes sombre like the original sometimes did. Plus, this is 95 minutes long with 4 stories + 1 wraparound which makes for less chance of clunkers being present. It is not a perfect movie but it is an improvement over the previous edition.
Tape 49 (wraparound)- two private investigators bust into a house to find a kid and find a collection of tapes which reveal what happened to the kid. Much better than the previous movie's wraparound. Some really cool gore effects as well.
Phase I Clinical trials - Blind guy undergoes an experimental procedure in which he has an eye with a camera put into it which records everything. Dude starts seeing dead people. Some good jump scares and a decent segment. Middle of the road for me.
A ride in the park- Directed by the dude who made Blair Witch Project. A guy riding into a park gets attacked by zombies who attack a birthday Party later. Lame end to a segment which came to an abrupt end despite some great gore and an interesting POV. 2nd Weakest story despite some great dark humor.
Safe Haven- A news channel crew tries to film an Indonesian cult. Utterly insane segment with amazing amount of gore and some unbelievable visuals. Easily the best of the whole series.
Slumber Party Alien Abduction- Self-explanatory. Had some great effects but too much shaky cam. Easily the weakest.
Ultimately, it is better than 2012's V/H/S and is way more fun. It will be enjoyed by genre fans. If you hate violence or have a pregnant woman in your family, don't even go near Safe Haven. You will go nuts with paranoia.
