Scandal - Hunting Season
4 January 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

David is starting to realize that Pope wasn't an enemy and that Quinn perhaps isn't the culprit behind the bombing…that perhaps the company bombed had sketchy ties to criminal activity. Later, David informs Abby that he is unemployed (meaning he must have resigned from office) and they sleep together! David seems fated to solve the bombing investigation and learn of how Pope is tied to it all, including Quinn's potential innocence. It wasn't until he was relieved of his normal duties and somewhat disgraced in the media, that he had time to really look at the case from varying perspectives. A "data entry" employee at the NSA says that the government is using a "domestic spying program" to keep ties on all Americans, invading privacy and asks Pope to take his case. However, is he who he says he is? Or does he have an agenda? This sets up Olivia once again against the President's administration even if inadvertently. Olivia's former flame, a Senator and opposing Democratic voice against the current president, gets Fitz' feathers all ruffled. There a few warm moments between the President and his wife prior to seeing photographs of Olivia and her former beau. An ultimatum is presented by her to Fitz…get over Pope. Olivia also tells him he needs to move on. Can the President of the United States cut emotional ties with Olivia? A lot always goes on in "Scandal" and busy plots are the norm. This episode is no different. Olivia's team being played by a client to secure decrypted information, David going from Olivia's potential enemy to a secret possible ally, Fitz struggling with his feelings for two women, a hunting trip Fitz wishes he didn't have to go on (NRA, gotta keep them happy), the First Lady demanding her husband's attentions and claiming she will have a political career even if Fitz squanders the Presidency, Quinn finally sticking up for herself and telling Abby to go screw it (I actually applauded this as Abby was asking for it as she was always riding why Olivia would keep the "Molotov Mistress" as a part of the team, using Quinn's "former name" in a scathing fashion), and Huck once again having to return to his CIA Black Ops past in order to hush the man that betrayed his boss: there's plenty of drama loaded in this episode! Patrick Fischler makes for a memorable turn as a speed-talking conspiracy nut who could be a wolf in sheep's clothing. How Olivia gains her resolve as members of the NSA come into her office and lets them know that she may've been duped in two days but they were for 16 years is a hoot! This shows that Olivia is brilliant and thinks amazingly on her feet in a matter of be able to crisis manage like that is a treat to see come together right before our eyes.
