Horrible Revelation
4 March 2015 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

Buffalo Boys is the story of young Paul Castro who finds out at the tender age of 15 that the guy his mother married and had a second kid by is not his real father. That comes out during a bit of teenage rebellion about his friends. Needless to say the emotional trauma of what is revealed unnerves the young man.

But for the life of me I can't make the jump between what he heard and the fact he agrees to participate in a murder for hire. Castro's best friend Rodney Mack is a drug dealer and he gets hired by his supplier Tilke Hill to murder her grandmother for the insurance money. Castro only sat and waited in a car, still he's guilty as part of the conspiracy.

That's a horrible revelation to give any kid especially one just entering puberty with all those brand new feelings and emotions not quite under control. Still no one goes out and agrees to be part of a murder conspiracy.

It's a dumb plot, but a nice group of players brought this to the big screen and it was shot here in Buffalo where I now reside. I recognized a few landmarks and residents of the city will pick up on some of the local descriptions and colloquialisms.

The best scenes are with Castro and McKenzie Trent playing his mother. Both of them really went into emotional overdrive that moved me considerably.

Still the story is for the bisons.
