Storyline

Plot Summary

The 1970s was a time of turmoil in the US and around the world. The social revolutions of the 60s were painted over the background of the war in Vietnam. Yet life in Newport remained relatively easy and shielded. It revolved around the surf and the sand and the sun. There were many reasons not to play high school football. Newport Harbor High School excelled in water polo, tennis, surfing and sailing - not football. That was all about to change when coaching legend Ernie Johnson came to town. The story of the 1970 Newport Harbor High School football team is told by the players, coaches, cheerleaders and others 40 years later. The story that emerged is less about football and more about life. Written by Taylor O'Sullivan
