Warring households

Somewhat of a mixed blessing for a couple of reasons. On the one hand, you've got a meeting of the in-laws (Jonathan Banks and Glenne Headly) for Benn's and Leslie's engagement party, and that is pitch-perfect casting. But then there's Chris (Rob Lowe) and Ann (Rashida Jones) in the far weaker storyline; both have had stilted romantic lives, and both are the collateral damage from the writer's room spending all of its energy on the Ben-Leslie relationship.

But the engagement party is the most memorable aspect for good reason. Banks is terrifying, Headly is delightfully daffy, and no one can get along. The petty squabbles don't quit, the tension mounts, and it's pretty damn funny.

The only unbelievable part to all of this is how someone can insist on Red Vines over Twizzlers. Seriously.

Everyone at the office gets to see Leslie's engagement ring. Leslie seems so excited about it. When Leslie and Ben try to tell Chris he thinks he is first. While organizing the engagement party Ben's parents seem to have some problems. Ben's parents hate each other but Leslie does not care. Tom and Jean-Ralphio show their new company "Rent a Swag" to April and Andy. April does not think Ron will like the presentation. Leslie and Ben have to go over the plan for the party. Everyone warns Ben not to hurt Leslie when it comes to their future. Party time and Ben's mother Julia (Glenne Headly) comes first wondering where Ben's father is. Anne finds Chris outside crying because he is so happy of the engagement. Ben's father Steve (Jonathan Banks) then comes in with his new girlfriend. When Leslie tr's to offer him some food he does not like what he was offered. The party is not getting well because Ben's dad and mom are not getting along. Not even Champion can make Chris happy. When Leslie shows everyone her unity quilt Steve's wife is upset she is not on it. Then we find out that Steve's wife is pregnant. This throws another curve ball into the mix of this wedding. Steve and Ron then fight for the last shrimp. To make things better Ben and Leslie put out their plans for the wedding. The two seem fine with it and Leslie/Ben use their last thirty to make out in a cab. Ron then accepts to go into business with Tom because he fired Jean-Ralphio.

EPISODE GRADE: B+ (MVP: Adam Scott)
