Almost Wet Myself I Laughed So Hard, So Funny

I do not even know where to start with this movie. I attended on opening day with my cousins and the theater was packed. I went with high expectations, and honestly, I was not disappointed one bit. This film contains the most hilarious and lively jokes I have ever witnessed in any movie. Melissa McCarthy is definitely worthy of a comedy crown with her role. The screenplay was brilliantly written from beginning to end. This film could resemble the offspring of The Hangover and Stepbrothers. Do not go into the theater with a low tolerance for jokes, because you will quickly leave your seat. I believe that anyone who is looking for an original, fresh comedy flick, The Heat will satisfy in every aspect. I am definitely purchasing the hopefully unrated DVD the day it becomes available, and I really look forward to seeing a sequel and possible series. I can honestly say that this was the most hilarious film I have ever seen. And by the sound of the rest of the audience, many of the would possibly agree.

Fun

A fairly typical buddy cop comedy, but it's enjoyable and has plenty of laughs. Sandra Bullock plays a straight-laced, unlikable FBI agent who comes to Boston for a major drug investigation and pairs up with antagonistic tough gal police detective Melissa McCarthy. The value of a film like this lies entirely with the leads, and Bullock and McCarthy both deliver. Bullock is a talented comedian who almost never gets to show it in a watchable film. McCarthy, fresh off her hit Identity Thief, proves once again to be a talented physical comedienne (as does Bullock, actually), but what should never go unmentioned when talking about her is that she's a wonderful ad-libber. Almost everything she says is hilarious. The rest of the cast is fine, and the film in particular shines whenever they go to the well of McCarthy's loud-mouth Irish family (which includes Jane Curtin), who have a black velvet painting of Jesus hitting a home run at Fenway Park on their kitchen wall. The plot is, of course, rote, and it's probably not a film I'll be thinking about an hour after I've seen it, but it provided a pretty good time at the movies.

Appallingly bad

I have no problem with remakes. Considering how much it costs to make a movie these days, selling something that people enjoyed the first time makes sense; it's a predictable return on the studio's investment, and it's easy to market a movie that's just like "so-and-so meets such-and- such". So, when a studio wants to remake an 80s buddy-cop comedy, with women in the lead roles, I say why not? There are enough Murphy-Nolte, Gibson-Glover, and Willis-everybody role models out there, how could you go wrong?

Here's how. Instead of ripping off a successful buddy-cop franchise, The Heat has Running Scared meeting The Odd Couple. Instead of a completely unconvincing pairing of a Borscht Belt ham and a tap dancer, they've got Sandra Bullock playing, yet again, a neurotic tight-ass and Melissa McCarty playing, yet again, a foul-mouthed slob. These two completely unlikable, and unbelievable, characters, one an FBI agent who somehow manages to confound detection dogs with her ability to find hidden drugs and weapons despite a complete lack of detection skills, and the other a Boston cop who (somehow) manages to successfully work undercover, in her own neighborhood, despite being morbidly obese, obnoxiously loud, and wearing the same clothes for days at a time. Both are (deservedly) pariahs within their respective departments, who somehow succeed despite their own individual and collective incompetence, and grow to adopt each other's most annoying bad habits. This movie plays to an audience's lowest, dumbest instincts- sadly, it will probably be a hit. Avoid at all costs.

Buddy Copy Film to See

8/10

There are a lot of buddy cop films out there and most of them feature macho males. They're classics from the 90s such as Lethal Weapon (1-4), Rush Hour (1-3), etc. The franchise has long been dormant waiting for the right return.

Enter The Heat, an updated and sophisticated new frontrunner featuring two of Hollywood's surprisingly funniest ladies! This pairing of Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy climbs to the tops of the buddy-cop genre. Each is perfect as each compliments the other in comedic timing and sensibility. On screen, their chemistry plays off well as jokes bounce back and forth in witty repartee, penned by a "Parks and Recreation Writer." Bullock plays the straight laced good cop who lives only for her job (Ashburn). The other is a more street smart bull in china shop who goes by less orthodox methods (Mullens).

The movie is similar to Miss Congeniality, except with darker humor, more action, and a tasteful dash of raunchiness. In the movie theatre, where I watched on opening day, the room was packed. Laughs kept coming and everyone cheered at some point or another. After leaving the movie, I felt really happy. Its literally a feel good film.

Waste of time and money!!!!

I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I was in this movie. The two women should have made an enjoyable movie. Plenty of one-liners and comedy. Got no of that. Instead we got a tired, worn out set of stupid slapstick events. Sandra and Melissa had no connection with each other either. It seemed like they were just there. No interaction or bonding or anything. The worst part of the movie was the language. I never heard so much unnecessary foul language in a movie before. It added absolutely nothing to the movie. All it did was give the impression that the two women were mindless, low intelligent idiots. There were about 50 people in the theater when I went to see it. I was the about 20th one to get up and walk out about half way through.

Not so serious movie

I loved that I finally got some really good laughs at a movie that was supposed to be a comedy. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a comedy this much. The two stars, Bullock and McCarthy, are very good together (although I am not calling for a sequel because this one was truly funny & to do it 2 times is unlikely).

In some of the reviews I've read, it seems to me that some folks are just taking this movie too seriously. Enjoy it - it's a summer release comedy movie and it's just FUN. The storyline is not the main attraction here - the two ladies are and their expressions (esp. McCarthy's) and the one-liners. I mean, c'mon, "...Puss 'n Boots" ?? I was laughing out loud and wondered how many people "got it" with that line and some of the other lines. For me, this movie is the funniest 2013 release and the funniest comedy in years.

Just get your ticket, some munchies and sit down and enjoy it and let yourself laugh.

Bullock & McCarthy are an absolute blast!

The Heat is achingly funny to say the least. I think it was the first time since Bridesmaids where I noticed a theatre laughing so much. The Bullock/McCarthy duo is a prime example of perfect casting and I've never enjoyed an on-screen team as much as this one. The effective team is what carries the picture and the main reason the movie feels fresh even though we've seen many buddy cop comedies prior to this. I would not be shocked if come December both Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy earn Golden Globe nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Comedy or Musical, they're really that great. You couldn't ask for a better supporting cast either with Marlon Wayans, Jane Curtin and Demian Bichir all adding a touch of spice to what is already piping hot. I'd recommend The Heat without a doubt, take a few friends to the theatre and you'll have a ball!

The Heat, with leads Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy was an enjoyable enough comedy for me

This is another movie I went with my movie theatre-working friend that I managed to watch for free. Therefore, if I didn't end up enjoying it, I wouldn't think I just wasted money on a ticket. Well, while the plot was pretty formulaic, I did enjoy the interplay between mismatched law partners Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. I didn't think everything was hilarious but enough of it was funny enough that I did end up liking this movie. The supporting cast, which included a Wayans brother and a former (Jane Curtin) and current (Taran Killam) "SNL" cast member, didn't really have a chance to generate laughs but I liked their presence just the same. In summary, I think The Heat is worth a look.

The Heat is a crazy boisterous epic ride!

Whoever said a movie with women in the lead cant run. This one doesn't just run,it rocks. What do u get when a thin,tall,sexy,bull-headed FBI cop meets a fat, shortish, equally bull-headed,witty local cop?You get an epic mixture.

Summed up in word, this movie is 'Insane'.The ego clashes, the battle, the tension, the hilarious moments in this movie are something to watch out. The one liners are epic, the dialgoues are as good and funny as they can get and are intelligently witty.I did not expect this much humor. The acting in general by the lead pair is superb(Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy). The plot is kinda there and all the supporting cast is decent. This movie is generally funny but many times gets ridiculously boisterous. The jokes are pretty good and original.

Go for it.It will make you laugh your head off.

Funniest movie this year so far!

An excellent movie for laughs! Enjoy the humor. Even story is much better than many others. I had doubts that the movie could not be so funny, but I had to go and see Sandra Bullock as a cop, especially after I enjoyed watching her in the "The Proposal." If you are a woman, you will for sure feel great and powerful from this movie. The critics either lack sense of humor or appreciation for sheer fun! I have not seen such a funny movie in recent times. I am definitely going to see it one more time.

If you enjoy only and video game effects then you may not like this one, otherwise if you like fun, and that too more realistic more than simply computer generated video game effects, you would definitely fell in love with this! The Heat is simply one of the best comedy movies I've seen this year. GO SEE IT!!

Overall score: 8.5/10
