Move aside Barbra?
12 May 2013 | by (Devon, England) – See all my reviews

I have been literally a lifelong fan of the perfect voice of Barbra Streisand and of course still am but I hope Barbra will forgive me when I say there is someone relatively 'new on the block' by the name of Lea Michelle whose voice is equal to hers if not, dare I say it even better? Ever since the fresh eyed Sophomore, Rachel Berry (Michelle) arrived at the Mckinley High Glee Club 'New Directions' her voice has rocketed into the hearts of millions of Glee fans and others alike.

SPOILER BEGINS

For a long time Lea has been saying that 'Don't Rain On My Parade' has always been her totally favourite song but when I heard her belt out Celine Dion's 'To Love You More' in episode 22 of Season 4 I must say that it may be time to select this song as her favourite.

The performance was simply stunning and her voice is a voice I could listen to for all eternity.

SPOILER ENDS

As far as Season 4 of Glee is concerned it seems plain to me that the writers have gone in two directions. one of which is a 'New Direction' to the previously 3 seasons.

SPOILER BEGINS

In the first 3 seasons Glee concentrated on McKinley High's Glee Club, New Directions but due to the fact that most of the original club members had to leave the school because they graduated etc, several new choir members have had to be brought in.

The writers have not abandoned the members who have left the school instead they have written a 'sub plot' for them and we are seeing how they manage to survive in the 'real' world. Some with success and some whose success has been limited.

New faces had to come into the New Directions if the series was going to continue and I have watched them make their parts their own with varying emotions.

Virtually all have slotted in extremely well but I do have to criticise the way some of the characters have been not much more than extensions of the old members. For example Becca Tobin who plays Kitty Wilde who is being portrayed as another Quinn in series 1-3 and Alex Newell who portrays Wade 'Unique' Adams can be viewed as an extension of Mercedes (Amber Riley). The only difference between Alex and Amber is that Alex is playing the part of a cross-dresser.

SPOILER ENDS

Although some of the plots in series 1-3 were a little Over the Top (OTT) I do feel that some in this latest series have gone well OTT.

I do realise that Glee is meant to be viewed a little 'tongue-in-cheek but I think that the writers have gone just a little too far.

Having said all this I do still think that Glee is a top notch series and good all round entertainment and as Season 4 is drawing to a close I can't wait for season 5 and will simply have to eat 'cold turkey' until it arrives back on our screens.

I believe there is not only a Season 5 but a Season 6 planned.
