Major Crimes Season 6: It Is a Go!

18 January 2017 11:30 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Major Crimes will continue to be TNT's longest-running drama.

It was just renewed for a sixth season by the network.

The successful series predates current network head Kevin Reilly and a time when the net focused on procedural fare.

While the focus may be changing at the network, there's no denying the focus of TNT's audience.

This past summer, Major Crimes reached an average of 10 million viewers per episode across TNT's multiple platforms and finished the third quarter ranking as one of cable's Top 10 dramas with adults 18-49.

Initially launched as a follow-up to TNT's long-running hit The Closer, Major Crimes quickly established itself as a must-see drama in its own right.

In its first season, it ranked as cable's #1 new drama of 2012, and it has remained among the most-watched dramas on cable ever since.

Major Crimes centers on a special squad within the Lapd that deals with high-profile or particularly sensitive crimes. »

Early Infinity War Shoot Will Use a Cumberbatch Stand-In

14 January 2017 9:47 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

If Avengers: Infinity War ends up feeling slightly disjointed, we'll know why. It's being reported this morning that star Benedict Cumberbatch, who will be reprising his role as Doctor Strange, is getting a stand-in for the early part of the shoot. We're not sure if this is the only actor getting such treatment. But it all makes perfect sense.

Avengers: Infinity War is the most mammoth undertaking Marvel has ever set out to accomplish. And the production will span nearly the entire year of 2017, as the Russo Bros. shoot it with Avengers 4 back-to-back. There are a reported 67 main characters. Doing the math, that's a lot of schedules to juggle. And some of the actors aren't going to be ready when production starts in just a few weeks.

One of those actors in question is Benedict Cumberbatch. He is currently shooting the true-life drama The Current War, where he stars as Thomas Edison. »

2016 Visual Effects Society Awards Nominations: ‘Rogue One’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ Lead the Way

10 January 2017 9:58 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

For the second year in a row, a “Star Wars” movie leads all films at the Visual Effects Society Awards nominations with seven nods: “Rogue One” has done just as “The Force Awakens” did a year ago, followed closely by “Doctor Strange” and “The Jungle Book,” both of which scored six. All of them were bested by “Game of Thrones,” however, which scored 11 nominations.

“The artistry, ingenuity and passion of visual effects practitioners around the world have come together to create truly remarkable imagery in a variety of media,” said Mike Chambers, Ves Chair, in a statement. “We are seeing best in field work that elevates the art of storytelling and engages the audience in new and innovative ways. The Ves Awards is the only venue that showcases and honors these outstanding artists across a wide range of disciplines, and we are extremely proud of all our nominees!”
