The 28th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (Psiff) will present Ruth Negga with the Rising Star Award at its annualRuth NeggaFilm Awards Gala for her performance in Loving. The Film Awards Gala, hosted by Mary Hart, will be held Monday, January 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Festival runs January 2-16.

The 28th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival has selected Ruth Negga for its Rising Star Award.
The award will be presented at the festival’s Film Awards Gala on Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The festival runs Jan. 2-16.
“Ruth Negga’s performance as Mildred Loving is one of the year’s most luminous and striking portrayals,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “This timeless love story about an interracial couple reminds us of the unstoppable power of love in the face of hate and prejudice – a story that could not be more resonant and powerful today. This will certainly be just one of many breathtaking performances in a long career.”

The star of Loving, who is in contention for lead acting honours this season, will collect her honour at the 28th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival’s awards gala on January 2.
Negga plays Mildred Loving in Focus Features’ Loving (Negga is pictured with Loving co-star Joel Edgerton), about the real-life interracial couple that fought discrimination in 1950s America and took their case to the Supreme Court.
Mr. Robot star Rami Malek and Michelle Williams will narrate spycraft texts from top secret documents in Laura Poitras and Henrik Moltke’s short film, Project X. XLrator Media, the distribution company behind John Ridley’s “Jimi: All is By My Side,” “The Machine,” and more, will soon release the new horror film “The Windmill,” starring Noah Taylor, best known for his performances in “Game of Thrones,” “Almost Famous,” and “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.” The film follows a group of unsuspecting tourists who discover a mysterious evil while traveling through the Dutch countryside. When their bus breaks down, they’re forced to seek shelter besides a windmill where supposedly a Satan-obsessed miller grinds peoples’ bones instead of grain. It co-stars Charlotte Beaumont (“Jupiter Ascending”), Patrick Baladi (“Rush”), Tanroh Ishida (“The Railway Man”) and Ben Batt (“Captain America: The First Avenger”). XLrator Media announced that it has acquired North American distribution rights to The Windmill, an homage to ’80s horror movies. Directed by Nick Jongerius, The Windmill is set to have its world premiere at FrightFest this August and will be released by XLrator Media in October.

The movie is adapted from the short film with the same title. “Mobile Homes” is written and directed by Vladimir de Fontenay (“Memoria”). Benoit Soler, whose credits include 2013 Cannes Caméra d’Or winner “Ilo Ilo,” is the director of photography.
