This was an interesting episode. Certainly not the best episode of Bones out there, mainly because Booth wasn't in the field. Instead, we got to deal with Agent Sparling, who wasn't bad, but also wasn't great. The case of the week was at least an interesting one as there was a case of mistaken identity with a pair of twins who were separated at birth. I was really interested in what Sweets did with narrowing down the search for the unknown twin's identity with factors from the alive twin. While I don't know the studies that Sweets refers to in order to justify this, I do know from personal experience that twins act similarly even when they are apart, so I thought it was a cool premise.
One good aspect of this episode is that we got to see a lot between Hodgins and Bones. I always think this is such a good pairing (I mean after seeing those two buried alive in season 2 its hard to not love seeing their interactions).
The last five or so minutes of this episode is what really bothers me. I like the idea that the second twin is still endanger and that Booth leaves his budget presentation to go with Sweets and Sparling to protect the twin and catch the contract killer. I even kinda liked that Sweets pretended to be a random civilian to grab the bomb from the killer. But what I did not like is that Agent Sparling (accidentally) shot Sweets but then proceeded to run over and reassure him that it is a flesh wound. Um, I'm sorry, where is your M. D., Agent Sparling? Because as far as I am aware, you are just an FBI agent. And regardless if it is a flesh wound or not, YOU STILL SHOT SWEETS. I was just really annoyed with this interaction. To make it worse, when Sweets is getting loaded into the ambulance, Sparling comes over and Sweets admits that he is in a relationship, and she replies that she knows. However, she then proceeds to kiss Sweets. Obviously not all the blame is on her because it didn't look like Sweets was protesting or pulling away, but that was a really dirty move by Sparling. As much as I dislike Daisy and can't stand the way Sweets and Daisy talk to one another, it was really unfair to her and disrespectful towards the relationship.
I thought the last minute or so was a nice interaction between Booth and Bones. I like that Booth is finally starting to get over the fact that Bones makes more money than him. I mean I appreciate where he is coming from but he is an agent of the FBI and she is like the best anthropologist in the world and has written several books, so I think it would be okay if he let her buy him things every once and a while.
Overall, I liked the concept of the case this week, but I really missed not having Booth in the field. I think the interactions between Bones and Hodgins was really nice to see, but Agent Sparling and Sweets really started to bother me, which is why this gets a solid 8/10.
Best part: "queenoa" - Booth
Worst part: Agent Sparling, I just feel like the writers have yet to write a female FBI agent in a way that isn't overbearing, annoying, or aggressive.
