- Katherine Glendenning is visited by her childhood friend Jocelin Brookmire, who will stay in Lord Glendenning's mansion for a while. When Katherine brings Jocelyn to her fiancé's department store The Paradise, Jocelyn is overwhelmed by all beautiful articles of clothing. She starts buying one article after another. The shop assistants understand that she cannot afford all this, but the director Moray tells them to put it all on a credit list. When Jocelin talks with the shop assistant Sam, she suddenly almost faints. To avoid attracting attention Sam leads her away, pretending that she has wrenched her ankle. She invites him to Lord Glendenning's mansion to thank him. When Sam arrives, and they are alone, she reveals her secret to him: that she has left her husband, who doesn't love her. She gives Sam an expensive gift, and starts kissing him. In that moment Katherine and her father enter the room. Jocelin slaps Sam in his face, pretending that he has kissed her against her will. Lord Glendenning tells Moray to fire Sam, but when Sam declares himself innocent, Moray believes him. The problem is how to convince Katherine and her father that Sam is guiltless.—Maths Jesperson {maths.jesperson1@comhem.se}
