A compelling, historical, cultural, political, journey of a legendary, groundbreaking American Artist and Educator
I've been associated with this film for several years thanks to Art Has Heart Executive Director Mike DeVault, the film's director Margot Perez-Greene and its Executive Producer Harvey Johnson. It's a joy to see it finally edited and released on DVD. As stated in my summary. PENA: FROM CULTURE TO CANVAS is "A compelling, historical, cultural, political, journey of a legendary, groundbreaking American Artist and Educator," Amado M. Pena, Jr.
This film should be required viewing for American History students, for political science buffs and aspiring young artists, art aficionados and collectors. My dear friend and multi-talented actor, director, screenwriter Lou Diamond Phillips gives his wonderful voice to Amado's journey as narrator. We're also treated with award-winning songwriter, performer and artist Holly Dunn's original music written of Amado's art and songwriter Tish Hinojosa's song written for Amado and JB Pena's wedding.
A must watch documentary showcasing the evolution of an American artist, emergence, growth and permanence of a southwest art, Native-American art world capturing a vital component of our nation's many peoples and wonderful cultural worlds.
