Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th (2013) - News Poster

Tamika’s Favorites of 2016

2016 was chock-full of big blockbuster releases, many of which either failed to make a sizable profit or were incredibly divisive among audiences. But out of the ashes rose a beautiful flower: the indie film. Yes, independent movies had a wonderful year, some even breaking per-theater records and making their way onto my favorites of 2016 list, which also includes a Denis Villeneuve film, a comic book series, collectibles, an excellent comprehensive horror documentary, and more.

Arrival: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival is a beautiful take on language and how communication (or the lack of proper communication) can either doom or ensure our survival as human beings on this planet. The way Villeneuve tells a story is the perfect fit for a film like Arrival because its focus is small but the ideas are big, much like his previous works, Enemy, Sicario, and Prisoners.

My hope is that the takeaway from Arrival

Filmmaker/Author Thommy Hutson Talks Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy: The Making of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street

Having written and/or produced some of the horror genre’s best documentaries, including such extensive ones as 2010’s Never Sleep Again, 2011’s More Brains! A Return To The Living Dead and 2013’s epic Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History Of Friday The 13th, it’s easy to say that Thommy Hutson not only loves the horror genre, but wants to give genre fans something different than just your run of the mill special feature Epk. You can tell a lot by watching a documentary and every single one Hutson has been involved with, really showcases an admiration and love for the slice and dice, blood-soaked greatest genre around.

While the Never Sleep Again doc covered the entire A Nightmare On Elm Street series, with a vast amount of knowledge, Hutson decided to serve up an even more personal account of not the entire series but 1984’s A Nightmare On Elm Street alone,

Review: Crystal Lake Memories

2010’s Never Sleep Again, a comprehensive documentary about the A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise, was a major hit with fans, and a true turning point in genre documentaries. The Daniel Farrands/Andrew Kasch-helmed film left not a single thing to the imagination, revealing all there was to know about the series and each of the sequels that followed. With a running time of four hours, and featuring interviews with just about every single person involved in the series, fans of slasher Freddy Krueger smiled from ear to ear. Though fans of the Friday The 13th series and its machete-wielding, hockey mask-wearing killer Jason Voorhees had a decent doc in 2009 with His Name Was Jason, Farrands and co-writer Thommy Hutson decided to go all out with the 2013 force of nature, Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History Of Friday The 13th. Newly re-released by Rlj Entertainment on a 2-disc DVD or Bluray set,

Writers hired for Friday the 13th TV series

There hasn’t been much development on the Friday the 13th TV series since it was announced last year, but now we’ve discovered who will be writing it.

Deadline are reporting that Steve Mitchell & Craig Van Sickle, who created the NBC show The Predator back in 1996, have been hired to pen the series. The series will be produced by original Friday the 13th director Sean S. Cunningham.

According to the outlet the series, “reimagines the masked Jason with a stronger feel of grounded reality. Described as a sophisticated, horror/crime thriller, the potential Friday The 13th series is about the ongoing quest of a detective’s search for his missing brother that is somehow tied to Jason Vorhees, a long thought dead serial killer who has now returned to wreak havoc in the new Crystal Lake.”

With a TV series seemingly heading into development, will the new movie also start making some progress?

New trailer for the re-release of Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th

I think we can all agree that Friday the 13th is still one of the most iconic horror movies ever made and with a new instalment reportedly on the way from Hannibal‘s Bryan Fuller, Jason Voorhees looks set to remain one of the greatest horror movie characters of all time.

But while fans eagerly await Fuller’s version, there was a documentary released by the team behind Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, which documented the history of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th is doing the same thing for Friday the 13th in this 7-hour three-disc set. Fans of the series will have picked this up when it was released two years ago, but they’ve just received a new distribution deal to re-release the movie and reach a wider audience.

Check out the trailer below:

Inspired by the critically-acclaimed book,

Movie Review – Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 2014.

Directed by Randall Lobb.

The history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles joins Ghostbusters and A Nightmare on Elm Street in the stable of “franchises celebrating 30 years of existence” and Randall Lobb’s rather wordy Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is more or less what it says on the tin. It’s a celebration of this franchise that has transcended generations just as icons like The Muppets and Star Wars have. But while it appears as though Turtle Power wants to be along the lines of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy or Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th, it often just feels like an extended DVD extra, especially when its hampered by such a short runtime. In short, it’s not

Watch the Trailer for Hellraiser Documentary ‘Leviathan’

“We have such sights to show you.” Have you ever wanted to look beyond the sights provided by Pinhead in Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II? If so, you’re in for a treat, as a new trailer has been released for Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II, an upcoming documentary exploring the first two movies in Clive Barker’s terrifying film franchise that stemmed from his 1986 horror novella, The Hellbound Heart.

It’s been over 25 years since Clive Barker wrote and directed the film adaptation of his own novella in 1987, so this seems like a great time to look back on the two films that spawned a popular horror film franchise. With over four hours of interviews and plenty of never before seen photos, Leviathan seeks to do for Pinhead and company what Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy and Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th

Countdown to Halloween - Freddy vs. Jason (2003)

To countdown to this year's Halloween, Luke Owen reviews a different horror film every day of October. Up next; the showdown of the Century - Freddy vs. Jason...

As mentioned in the Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare entry of Countdown to Halloween, there are times when a movie's production is more interesting than the film itself. This is the case with Ronny Yu's Freddy vs. Jason. Over the ten plus years of the movie's Development Hell, it saw dozens of writers, dozens of directors and even more scripts. Robert Englund put it best in Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th - there is a documentary ready and waiting to be made about Freddy vs. Jason's tortured development - and it would no doubt be more entertaining than the final product we got.

The idea of pitting these two titans of terror was first pitched

Crystal Lake Memories Gets New Release Date

Crystal Lake Memories is an extensive Friday the 13th documentary that runs nearly 420 minutes. Originally scheduled for release in August, the Blu-ray/DVD release has moved to more fitting date in September:

“1428 Films, Panic Productions and Hutson Ranch Media have announced that the release date for Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th has been moved to Friday, September 13th, 2013. The documentary was originally slated for release on August 27th.

“Because of the scope of the show and in order to craft the best, most interesting and entertaining look at the films and TV series, it became necessary to give the post-production process a bit more time,” says producer Thommy Hutson. “Ultimately, though, we are thrilled with the show and can’t wait for fans to get back to camp – and we think Mrs. Voorhees and Jason would be happy with the new date!”

“Having spent well
