30 June 2016 12:18 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The Neon Demon” opened last weekend and performed rather poorly at the box office, but there’s still a lot to discuss about the film and its director, Nicolas Winding Refn. That’s where Joe von Appen and myself step in on this latest episode of Adjust Your Tracking. Most of the podcast is spent discussing Refn’s latest […]

On this latest episode of Adjust Your Tracking, my co-host, Joe von Appen, and myself bring down the shades, look through our telescopes and stare endlessly at the lurid, surreal and dreamy filmic universe of Brian De Palma. Of course, this is in honor of the theatrical release for “De Palma,” the new documentary by the filmmaker’s […]

On this latest episode of Adjust Your Tracking, my co-host Joe von Appen, who’s something of a Shane Black scholar, gets to impart his vast knowledge of the “The Nice Guys” writer/director’s oeuvre. Before we dive into his career and our review of his latest film, which came out last week and sadly underperformed at […]

17 May 2016 1:17 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

This episode of Adjust Your Tracking is made up of two reviews, opens with Joe von Appen and myself briefly reminiscing about the podcast’s origins and then quickly spinning off into the films at hand. We split over Ben Wheatley‘s new apocalyptic class war picture “High-Rise” but nothing can stop us both from gushing over Yorgos Lanthimos‘ […]

Podcast: Adjust Your Tracking Examines Both Ends Of The Modern Exploitation Spectrum With 'Green Room' & 'Hardcore Henry'

20 April 2016 2:05 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Adjust Your Tracking is back to talk about director Jeremy Saulnier's latest film, "Green Room," an intensely entertaining and violent horror action film — his followup to "Blue Ruin" — about a punk band stuck in a life or death fight against a group of neo-nazis after a show goes wrong. My co-host Joe von Appen and I are big fans of Saulnier's particular brand of genre filmmaking, which often finds regular, frightened and even bumbling people put into extreme situations. He's definitely a filmmaker on the rise and will no doubt move onto something bigger and hopefully even better soon (check out my Playlist Podcast interview with him and "Green Room" co-star Anton Yelchin for even more on this). Read More: Cannes Review: Jeremy Saulnier's 'Green Room' Beyond praising that film, though, we also look at it in conjunction with another recent genre release, "Hardcore Henry," an over-the-top. »

Podcast: Adjust Your Tracking Rocks Out With Richard Linklater's 'Everybody Wants Some!!'

12 April 2016 11:55 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

On the previous episode of Adjust Your Tracking, myself and co-host Joe von Appen gushed about Jeff Nichols' "Midnight Special," and we open this latest episode of the podcast with a followup on its scary box office possibilities (or lack thereof). But the main section of the show is dedicated to Richard Linklater's latest film, "Everybody Wants Some!!," and beyond our review, we dive into a deeper discussion about the film's specific, mostly-white male perspective and what that means in an era of #OscarSoWhite movie culture. The final segment of the podcast is our latest edition of Hold Up, in which we discuss Mathieu Kassovitz' brilliant 1995 film "La Haine," which is possibly even more relevant today than during its initial release.  Read More: Ranked: The Best Characters In Richard Linklater's Movies  All shows and their episodes are brought to you by The Playlist and can be found. »

Podcast: Adjust Your Tracking Falls Hard For Jeff Nichols' 'Midnight Special'

4 April 2016 10:17 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Earlier this week, we dropped the latest Playlist Podcast where I talked with Kevin Jagernauth and Rodrigo Perez about "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice." And on this latest episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe von Appen and myself can't help but open with our ranty feelings on the movie. It turns out to be good context for the meat of this episode, discussing the power of Jeff Nichols' latest film, "Midnight Special." The film rolled out to more theaters this weekend and will expand from there. Now that it's playing in wider release, we hope you're able to track it down. Listen to the podcast to hear why we love it so.  Read More: Berlin Review: Jeff Nichols' 'Midnight Special' With Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst & Adam Driver You can stream or download the podcast below via Soundcloud and/or subscribe on iTunes. Thanks for listening. »

Podcast: Over/Under Movies Pits 'Watchmen' Against 'Dredd'

21 March 2016 9:40 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Last week, The Playlist introduced podcast Adjust Your Tracking under its umbrella (listen to their latest episode here). And now we welcome another new podcast, called Over/Under Movies. This show features three critics — Oktay Ege Kozak, Ryan Oliver and Ayt co-host Erik McClanahan — who choose one overrated and one underrated film within the same genre, style, or tone to discuss in each episode. Sometimes the critics agree on the picks, and sometimes they don't, but the conversation is always lively. Make sure to subscribe to The Playlist Podcast iTunes feed as that's where all these shows will live first and foremost.
