Ending of the episode

Warning: Spoilers
There is just no way that a woman who has the business she has, and the house she has with the security gate, would open her front door in the middle of the night with no internal video surveillance camera, no door chain, no peephole, nothing. She just said that she hadn't heard the gate so it's clearly not going to be a legitimate visitor. Otherwise a great episode but this was just so unrealistic.

It comes to life.

Part one was good, but it was typical crime drama, Part two however is a different ball game, this has that spark of something that we associate with Line of Duty.

There is a depth to this story that is quite remarkable, it's being repeated now eight years on since its original transmission, it's as good now as it was then. Lennie James continues to impress, but it's the dramatic ending that makes this so good, bit many shows would be so brave as to take out such a big name so early on.

Excellent, 9/10.

Solid bit of storytelling

Gates is drawn in deeper as more information about Jackie comes out.

This is a compelling episode that makes you want to find out what happens next.

The noir-like aspects of the story are the best parts for me, as we see a flawed central character unravelling at the hands of a well-realised femme fatale. Some moments are predictable, whilst others, particularly the ending, are not.

Various scenes that seem to be inspired by 'The Wire', involving street gangs and life in drug-addled communities, plus the banter between the police are fairly good, but no characters outside of Superintendent Hastings have particularly entertained me yet.

For me it's a 7.5/10 but I round upwards.

I like the bit where the old geyser hit that kid with his walking stick.

Episode 1.2

Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of Line of Duty is not going to take a leisurely stroll. We get to know some people in Gates inner circles but we also feel the pressure Gates is now under.

Gates quickly realises that his mistress Jackie Laverty has been using him. She was not involved in a hit and run, she killed her accountant.

That is no chain of beauty salons she owns, they are a vehicle for money laundering.

The trouble with Gates, he cannot finish with Laverty.

The real villains behind all this know how best to deal with Gates and Laverty.

Arnott makes the link between Laverty and Gates. Kate on the inside is also getting information.

Writer Jed Mercurio ups the stakes by ending the episode with high drama. Gates is up to his neck in trouble.
