Cuaron, Garcia-Bernal, Luna Set for Guadalajara

Guadalajara – “Gravity’s” Alfonso Cuaron, Gael Garcia Bernal, star of Emmy-winning “Mozart in the Jungle” and Diego Luna, who toplines Amazon’s “Casanova,” look set to attend this week’s 31st Guadalajara Intl. Film Festival, an event that, unspooling five says after Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu’s Academy Award director win, proves that these days Mexican fests hardly needs foreign Hollywood stars: They’ve got their own, or can draw on celebrities from other parts of the Spanish-speaking world.

That said, in one early fest highlight, Danny Glover and Maya Rudolph will present “Mr. Pig” at a charity gala Saturday: and Ron Perelman will receive a tribute.

They will be joined by top-of-the-class Mexican producers: Pablo Cruz at Canana, Leo Zimbron and Mark Alazraki at Alazraki Ent, both companies based out of L.A- and Mexico City, plus Monica Lozano, producer of “Amores Perros” and “Instructions Not Included.”

‘Mr. Pig’ Co-Investor Jalisco Renews Film Fund Equity Line (Exclusive)

27 January 2016 5:30 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A co-investor in Diego Luna’s Danny Glover-starrer “Mr. Pig” which screens in Sundance Premieres, Mexico’s Jalisco Film Fund is renewing for 2016 its risk equity film investment scheme, offering up to Pesos 17 million ($922,000) this year to one foreign or Mexican international co-production which shoots 40% of locations in the state of Jalisco.

Jff president Alberto Lamas Flores launched the 2016 call for applications Tuesday Jan. 26, coinciding with Sundance world premiere of “Mr. Pig,” the third fiction feature from actor-director-producer Luna, star of Amazon’s “Casanova” pilot. Luna’s first fiction feature “Abel” bowed at Sundance to acclaim in 2010.

Tapped for “Mr. Pig” by Mexico and L.A.-based Canana, founded by Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal and Pablo Cruz, the Jalisco Film Fund equity line reps the only film financing scheme in place among Mexico’s 31 states, said Jff director Rodolfo Guzman Salas.
