Is James Bond 25 Targeting a Female Director?

12 September 2017 4:10 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After a very long wait, Daniel Craig finally confirmed his return for James Bond 25 last month after seemingly endless speculation on the matter. That means that the upcoming installment of the long-running franchise is going to have a bit more of the same before passing the torch to another actor down the road. But could the franchise be getting some new perspective as well in the form of a female director? According to producer Barbara Broccoli, it is absolutely something that they would consider.

Barbara Broccoli, who has been in control of the James Bond movies along with Eon Productions ever since her father, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli passed away, recently spoke with Screen Daily about her upcoming movie Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool. During the conversation, she was asked about whether or not she would consider having a female director helm a James Bond movie in the future. »

Angelina Jolie says Maleficent 2 “is going to be a really strong sequel”

9 September 2017 12:15 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back in April of last year, Disney officially announced that Maleficent 2 would be part of its live-action fairy tale slate, but it wasn’t until last month that we heard some movement on the film, with Jez Butterworth (Spectre) signing on to pen the script.

Now, during an interview with Deadline at the Telluride Film Festival where she was screening her new directorial effort First They Killed My Father, Angelina Jolie has confirmed that she will be making her return to acting with the Disney sequel: “I am now the breadwinner for the family so it’s time. We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel.”

Jolie remains wanted by Universal Pictures for the role of The Bride of Frankenstein in its shared Dark Universe, although it’s unclear whether this would fit with her schedule given her upcoming involvement with the Maleficent sequel. »

Amazon and Apple enter race for James Bond rights, keen on spinoffs and TV shows

7 September 2017 3:38 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Bond 25 may have found its 007, with Daniel Craig confirmed as reprising the role for his fifth and final outing, but the next instalment still needs to find a director, not to mention a new distributor after Eon and MGM’s deal with Sony expired with the release of Spectre.

Over the past few months, Sony, Universal, Fox and Warner Bros. have all been pursuing the property, with Warner Bros. said to be front runner. However, THR is reporting that both Amazon and Apple have now entered the race, with Apple reportedly keen not only on the distribution rights, but securing a deal for full ownership of the franchise with a view to continuing the big screen series, as well as exploring its untapped TV potential. The cost for such a full ownership deal could range from anywhere between $2 billion and $5 billion.

Meanwhile, the report also claims that Chinese companies »

James Bond 25: now Apple & Amazon are bidding for the rights

Nick Harley Sep 7, 2017

Who will distribute the next James Bond film? There's a growing list of contenders...

Per usual, everyone is after 007. The rights to distribute the James Bond film franchise are up for grabs, after Sony’s latest deal, ending with 2015’s Spectre, lapsed. Warner Bros is the frontrunner to land the deal to distribute future Bond films, but two unlikely companies have emerged to throw their caps in the ring: tech giants Amazon and Apple.

Reportedly willing to match or even outbid Warner’s offer, the two are the latest to join the bidding war that’s emerged between Warner, Sony, Fox, and Universal. The studio rights are held by MGM, and now with Amazon and Apple pursuing aggressively, Warner is pressuring MGM to close the deal.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Apple and Amazon have bigger plans than just movies for the franchise. Citing James Bond as »

Watch Out Studios: Apple And Amazon Are Vying For James Bond Film Rights Too

6 September 2017 12:03 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

In a world where intellectual property barely exists if it doesn’t exist in multiple formats across multiple platforms, the James Bond franchise remains a remarkable anomaly: longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are basically interested only in making theatrically-released films about the iconic British spy. But Apple and Amazon stand poised to test the character’s potential on streaming and broadcast formats after joining the bidding war for rights to the series after Sony’s deal to produce 007 adventures expired in 2015 with “Spectre.”

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the tech giants are courting longtime rights holder MGM for the rights to Bond, in an effort to anchor their respective ventures into content creation in one of the most enduring and beloved franchises in cinema history.

Whether or not Daniel Craig would return to play James Bond is not the only reason why we've had to wait longer than usual for Bond 25 to get going. One major reason is that Sony’s distribution rights expired with 2015’s Spectre, and franchise owners, MGM and Eon, are looking at other studios to take up the contract. Apple and Amazon Enter Fight for James Bond Movie Rights

6 September 2017 7:43 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Just recently, Daniel Craig finally gave into the devil and decided to return as James Bond in the next 007 adventure. Interestingly enough, writers are busy trying to crack the script. But the franchise doesn't have a proper home. And those in Hollywood are looking at it as one of the last great untapped titles. Even though Bond is as classic as they come in terms of movie series, with the 25th Bond movie on the way, this title could be a real game changer. Apple and Amazon understand this, and are furiously trying to get their feet in the door.

Warner Bros. is currently in the lead to win the James Bond rights from Sony Pictures, who definitely don't want to lose their golden goose after flopping out with the Ghostbusters cinematic universe and a few other failed attempts to get a big blockbuster tentpole series off the ground. Bond is considered a 'mega-franchise'. »

‘Star Wars: Episode IX’: 6 Great Directors Who Could Replace Colin Trevorrow

6 September 2017 6:59 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The news that director Colin Trevorrow would be leaving the director’s chair on “Star Wars: Episode IX” was just the latest sign of behind-the-scenes challenges facing filmmakers unable to yield to the studio’s plans for the franchise. However, there’s a new hope on the horizon with the impending release of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VII — The Last Jedi,” which hits theaters in December and has reportedly made the studio very happy. Johnson, who has indie roots and a strong genre sensibility, may in fact be the most logical choice to take Trevorrow’s place.

So far, however, no filmmaker has been hired to direct multiple “Star Wars” movies since the franchise was resurrected by Jj Abrams. So if the studio decided to bring more talent into this galaxy far, far away, it may want to consider some of these first-rate directors, who all could »

Rumored James Bond 25 Plot Has Folks Comparing It To Taken

5 September 2017 9:37 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As is the case with the wait that accompanies any entry into the enduring James Bond film franchise, rumors are expected to swirl before Eon Entertainment holds one of their official press conferences that are surrounded by much pageantry. And with 007’s next big screen outing not arriving until November 2019, it could be well over a year before we once again witness such a thing.

Recently, word on the street has consisted of things such as Beyonce being the next big name to lend their pipes to the series’ proud tradition of memorable opening titles themes and, quite frankly, that actually sounds believable. After all, one could argue that the some of the best theme songs of the past have all been recorded by female vocalists.

When it comes to plot, however, that’s where things get a little more iffy. Not long ago, Raymond Benson himself debunked rumors that »
