Sex & Nudity

Occasional fleeting scenes; help to provide an authentic tone to the series rather than just for titillation.

There is a brief scene in which Jon Silver is brought by his shipmates into a room to meet "Black Beard", but as it turns out he is being served up to five prostitutes for group sex. "Black Beard" is revealed to be a woman with large bush. The scene obviously features brief full-frontal female nudity, as well as the other women a few of whom are topless.

It is revealed that two female characters are in a relationship. We see them undress each other, grope each other, and passionately kiss. (Brief topless nudity.)

A coloured woman is shown fully nude on a bed, with pubic hair visible.

The opening scene of the episode features two women waking in bed. We see brief nudity of one of the women in the scene, the other we see dressing but nudity is fleeting.

There is a scene (played for comedy) in which a frustrated customer is asking a topless prostitute to have sex with him while she gives him a hand job.

A short sex scene between a man and a woman, some thrusting, a topless female and some rear male nudity.

It is implied a woman has been beaten and raped, we see her shaker naked inside a small room. Later on it is implies she is gang raped (not actually shown). A 'rapist' is hit over the head with a large beam.

A scene of a woman riding a man, breasts and rear female nudity is shown.

Although there isn't any nudity, there is a "fuck tent" on the beach. A woman (being punished) is chained up inside the tent and at one point asks if the men could quit being so rough toward her (...she is punched in the face for this).

Another scene in the episode implies another woman douching the above woman inside the tent. She screams in pain.

A woman bares her breasts to a woman and kisses him, followed very briefly by implied standing sex.

A woman rides a man (fully clothed), but after realising he is no longer erect she leaves. Full-frontal male nudity is shown as he lays naked and spread-eagle on a bed. .

A man left for dead wanders back to the people that abandoned him. He is naked. Briefly his penis is seen.

The episode opens on a prostitute having sex with a client (nothing actually shown), and the scene continues in the brothel where various topless women can be seen walking around the room.

A woman is changing in a mirror, brief nudity. She stands naked (now nothing shown) and allows another woman to see her.

Season 2 continues in the same manner; continuing the producers proper approach to providing due realism.

Violence & Gore

Realistic to the story there is violence, occasionally graphic throughout.

While there is a lot of action per episode, below some particularly brutal examples.

A prolonged fight scene between two pirates at the end of the episode. It is vicious and brutal, one man wins by beating a the other to death with his fists. Blood covers both men's face, neck, chest, and fists by the end of the fight.

Picking up after the events at the end of the previous episode, the man who lost the fight is seen being pissed on by pirates who are laughing at him. He is dead.

It is strongly implied that a woman is being beaten and raped as a punishment.

A man is pinned underneath a falling ship and has his leg violently amputated to save his life. (The screaming and sound effects may be upsetting).

Pirates attack scenes include several men are shot and killed with muskets and cannons. Some injuries are shown quite brutal and bloody. A man bites out another man's throat in one gory scene.

S02E02 - A villainous pirate captain chops a man's head off with a dagger, while he is still alive in a crowded tavern. You can hear the gurgled screams of the victim although you only see the man's back while he is chopping. You then see his severed head fall to the floor with copious dark blood. The attacker is a psycho type character and you can tell he is enjoying it, this coupled with the reactions of the bystanders may be disturbing for some viewers. Definitely the most graphic scene in the show up to this point.

Profanity

Strong language including "fuck" and "shit", insults such as "cunt" and sexual slang such as "cock" and "pussy".

[Characters smoke cigars, drink often. Occasional opium use.

To aid realism scenes can be brutal including fights, period weapon injuries/killing, some rape and slavery.
