Full of non-direct expression
ganpon20 July 2021
A British man is teaching English to children in an English school in Japan. There is a child whose mother seems to be busy so that she is always late to pick him up. One day, his mother does not come to pick him up. The man calls the mother several times but she does not answer the phone. What happened to her? And what is the relationship to the accident that happened in Kamakura recently?

In the film, David, the man teaching English, lives together with his Japanese partner Keiko. They are a general family but they don't seem to have happy lives. That is because Keiko cannot have a child for some reason. However, there is nothing said in dialogue that tell us this fact. We have to speculate from a scene in the shower. I thought that this film expresses many facts non-directly. The dialogue is kept to a minimum and the other information we need is expressed by the characters' actions and facial expressions.

Regeneration of a family
bump-1858911 June 2016
This is the story that a husband and wife make sure their love and regenerate their relationship. A man lives with just his wife, but these days they don't get on very well. The man wants to do something about this situation, but he doesn't know what he should do.

I think the acting of the wife is really sensitive and great because her feeling changes completely from the beginning to the ending. She shows the change of her mind well in her look and manner. I think her change is most important factor in this film. In addition, the acting of the husband is also really nice. I could feel his kindness and love towards his wife from first to last.

The music is also nice. I feel it's beautiful because it fits each scene of this film. This music is fleeting but delightful, so I like it. I think that it's very difficult for unrelated people to become a family, but that's exactly why we feel happiness when we can understand each other.

A wall of international marriage

Warning: Spoilers
This is a film about a married couple who are having troubles in their relationship due to the fact that the wife, Keiko, her body is not available to make a baby. Keiko, as well as her husband, David desires to have a baby. One day, a boy called Jay who is a half Japanese and a half Western, and also a student at David's school, loses his mother due to a big train crash. Of course, David and Jay do not know about the accident, so David takes Jay back with him to his house. Then, David comes up with an idea to adopt Jay as he is half Japanese and Western, seeming to be like a destiny. However, Keiko rejects and tell David to call the police. Finally, Jay's father appears for the first time in the movie to pick Jay up. The father was never seen in the movie because he belonged to an army. Due to the train crash, the relationship between people around Keiko and David has started to change. First, is Jay's mother's lost as it leads to the point where David nearly adopted him as their kid, which will result in solving the problem of them not being able to have a baby. Second, is the neighbouring woman who appeared in the first half of the movie and does mean things, like returning their garbage back to their front door although they have separated combustible and incombustible trash. At the end of the movie she comes up to them saying, "Was that the police?" "Did they want me?" "My husband hasn't come home" Even though she has does mean stuff to them, she asks for help and the Keiko and David invites her over to their house to have a cup of tea. For helping the lady, Keiko and David would not have mean things done to them and surely will make life easier for them to live in that apartment.

Family is difficult, but it's beautiful at the same time

Warning: Spoilers
Three Days in Kamakura is a film about a married non-Japanese man who works at a small nursery school in Kamakura, Japan. He is married Japanese woman and they have no children.

It is interesting how radio broadcasting is used in this film. At first, train accident has no relationship with the main story, however, as the story advances, train accident starts to play an important role in the main story. It was very interesting to see how those main story and sub stories connect to each other.

In addition, rain and beaches in Kamakura are very beautiful. Rain showed how sad characters are feeling. I was thinking why it has to be in Kamakura, but I could not find out why. I am very curious about why the place has to be Kamakura, and what significant role the place play.

The story was heartwarming, and watching this film made me want to see my family. Also, this film showed me that there is a wide variety of family structures. In the film, a non-Japanese man are married a Japanese woman, and they have no children. There are various types of family in the current society, for example, nuclear families, single parent families, couples without children and so on. This film taught me that there is no "correct" or "standard" form of family, and as long as people think they are family and they are happy, then they are a family. I am sure this film will make you miss your family.

Family and Love
bbb2425 October 2015
This film is the story of a Japanese woman and English man. They are married and have no children. they love each other. However, they have some different opinions. The man doesn't care about a relationship with their neighbor, but the wife is annoyed by it. In addition, he wants to be a family with one boy, but she doesn't think it is good. While these differences make them nervous, their love gets deeper. I was impressed that their love is very beautiful. In the film, the woman looks sad. her feeling fits with beautiful and sad views of Kamakura. When the man sees her sadness, he comforts her. I like his kind character.

I thought the choice of language in this film is very nice. The woman can speak Englishand Japanese. She usually speaks to her husband in English. But she speaks Japanese in important situation. I understood her mind and the scene moved me.

I think some problem makes their love deeper, and their mind changes a little in the end.

A lonely but warm story
sumomo11299 January 2024
"Three Days in Kamakura" is a family love story. A British man who marries a Japanese woman is discriminated against by his neighbor because he is a foreigner. I felt that he and his wife felt even more isolated by not being able to have children. This story is sad, but there is also love for family within it. I am moved by the way the husband and wife care for each other. When I hear the word family, I think of children, but I realized that people can be a family even without children. Additionally, the scenes of Japan in this film make me feel very nostalgic. You may like it too. "Three Days in Kamakura" is really worth seeing. I want you to experience the mysterious feeling of loneliness and warmth when you watch this film.

"Three Days in Kamakura" Review
fmkz17 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This film makes me consider the relationship. Firstly, I am concerned about the relationship between Jay and his mother. However, there are a lot of relationships with trouble in this film. David and Keiko do not seem to get on very well. Mrs.Yamada, a resident who lives next door, puts garbage in front of their door. David's co-worker always gets him to lock the school. The most interesting scene is that David and Keiko take care of Jay in their house. Keiko is confused about Jay but she enjoys playing Karuta, and going the beach with Jay. David is about to adopt Jay. I can understand his feelings. He likes children. Yet, they do not have children and never will. Contrasting with David, Keiko is calm and rational. She asks him to call the police. As a result, it goes well for Jay. When Mrs.Yamada is nervous, Keiko takes care of her. I think that Keiko corrects twisted relationship. I also consider that rational judgement and thinking about the other's emotion are important.

A daily life changes
safrannene7 February 2014
This film shows a daily life of a couple. They live in Kamakura, a beautiful city in Japan. They love each other, but the wife sometimes looks unhappy. One day, the husband comes home with a boy, the student in his English class, and their ordinary life changes a little.

The wife and the husband see everything in a slightly different way. For example, she suffers in a relationship with a woman in the neighborhood but he doesn't care so much. And when the boy comes to their home, their reaction is quite different. Is it because the wife is Japanese and the husband is British? Perhaps their problem is not so simple. She can't have a baby, but he likes children very much and maybe she does too.

They live near the sea, and scenery is always beautiful. However, when they are sad, the sea looks sad and when they are happy, it looks happy. And the choice of language is interesting. She can speak both English and Japanese, and she usually talks with her husband in English. When she uses Japanese to her husband, she has a special feeling that she can't say in English. It's touching.

moved movie
haruzawa2 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is heartwarming story. I learned that sometimes words are not necessary from this movie. Actors expressions and actions tell truth to us. Especially, in the last scene, the main character and his wife welcomed Ms.Yamada, who made trouble for them. Without any words, we could know David and his wife thought to try to be nice to Ms. Yamada from their expressions. In another scene, his wife touched her stomach and screen showed big injury. We could know she can not give birth to a child. So David thought the child came to them not by coincidence but fate. We can know characters mind from their expressions and actions.

I learned words are not the most useful tool to tell the truth from this movie.

Warning: Spoilers
There are a husband and a wife. The husband is David. He is a foreigner and English teacher. He teaches English to small children every day. One day, a boy's mother did not come to the English school to pick him up. Therefore David and his wife begin to care of the boy.

This is a wonderful heartwarming story. I like David's character. He is very kind to everyone and he has a broad mind. I think he is a good English teacher and also good husband. Camera work, the tone and the music are nice. The Ending is very interesting. It is a little sad, however I think it is a great ending. The ending made me feel happy.

I like this movie. I like the characters. I recommend you to watch the movie. This is a great heartwarming story, therefore I think the movie will make you feel happy.

The quiet and beautiful film

Warning: Spoilers
It was little hard for me to understand the message by the director, but I felt very fascinated by the fewness of dialogue in this movie. This is the story of an English man and Japanese woman. They love each other, but they have a different thought. Then, the two are gradually growing apart. However, the husband takes a little boy. The boy becomes a factor in their troubled relationship. I was moved by the power of the little boy, and I calm feeling came over me. I'm glad I was able to know this film.

Place called family
yfm359418 July 2013
This film describes the importance and difficulty of family. All of the main characters have something troublesome in the story. A global couple, the wife is Japanese, is not on good terms with their neighbor and they don't have any children. Another character is Jay, who has mixed parentage. His parents are missing, therefore the couple decides to take care of him for a few days.

The music in this film is great. It matches the atmosphere and emotions of the characters. Furthermore, the description in each scene implies the gloomy feelings of them suitably. These factors bring out the story and make this film impressive.

This film makes us reflect what ideal family is. Is blood relationship necessary? If either of your parents is a libertine, or some of your family are missing, what do you think of them? Please check it out by yourself. This film will certainly tell you something important.

Location is very nice.
colletengland18 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are three main characters in this film, a man who works at the English school as a teacher, a woman who is a wife of a man, and a boy of mixed parentage, who goes to the English school. A man and his wife want to have a baby, but they can't have a baby. One day, a mother of a boy doesn't come for him to the English school, so they decided to take care of him for a little while. They spend a very happy life with a boy, but finally a boy goes back home. I will give you an impressions about this film. First of all, I feel painful. When they live with a boy, a man says let's make him their son or something like that, because they fail to have a baby once. However, in the last scene a boy is taken back by his father. Furthermore, I think a mother of a boy died due to a traffic accident, because there is an announcement on the radio in which a train delayed because of a fatal accident, and his mother never appears again. In conclusion, this film makes me sad from beginning to ending.

Need imagination
qoodog19 July 2019
This movie has some hiden message so, I have to need my own imagination. First, the garbage which is put in front of door. This is meant harassment by neighborhood, I think. Second, the scare of her stomach. This is meant infertility treatment. That is why he really wants kid who becomes alone. Third, the broadcast of a big accident from radio or TV some times. This is meant the kid'smother and neighbour are killed by the accident. These things are not told definitely, but I could understand by my imagination.

Wonderful!
betoexko7 July 2013
This story centers round one accident. A man who is an English teacher and wife have one problem, and then a boy comes to their home for a certain reason. They do not have a child so he tries to bring up the boy but his wife does not accept it.

This movie is so nice and worth to watch because many happenings occur around the married couple and it is easy to understand. Actors' performance and actresses' performance is really good. Especially, the husband is nice because he was being expressiveness and his character was wonderful. And I thought what this movie's director chose about Japan is nice. Japan's scenery is so good. Also, this movie is marvelous because it has many topics but they are connected with the main story at the end. Lastly, the music is a match for this movie.

The ending is happy, but on the other hand it is unhappy because they are not entirely able to smile. This movie is easy to watch and understand, so everyone should enjoy watching it.

Painfull and Impression
blackhayatego4 July 2022
David is an English teacher for kids and lives with his wife, Keiko. There is a problem in their relationship. One student, who is a half- Japanese, half-Western boy, comes to David's English class. His mother is always late to pick him up. She doesn't come to school one day. David takes the boy home. David and Keiko spend a good time with the boy. Keiko says that David should call the police. However, David sees the boy's existence as fate, and says they can keep him and raise him together... This movie was a short human drama, made in 2012. I was sad watching this, but it was interesting that the role of calming the mental state shifts from David to Keiko. They always support each other and the existence of the boy has changed their relationship well. I think this aspect gives hope to viewers. This movie is worth watching. You'll be reminded that everyone has hurt experiences in their life.

Family Love Story
strawberry-jam-shake22 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
One family David and Keiko, live in Kamakura city. They don't have children, and it makes their relation worse. It is a domestic problem.

This is a movie mix Japan and Western. The music is beautiful and the location is Kamakura, where the place very near to my school. Therefore, I could enjoy it very much! In this story, a meddlesome old lady Miss Yamada makes is big impact for me. It's very real Japanese problem! It is serious, but I laugh at it. Because, David doesn't mention her, so I love his optimistic character. I was especially moved after Half-Western boy into their lives. What a big change Keiko does! She smiles, and even kind to Miss Yamada. I love the family of David and Keiko.

The film shows me what family is! Their troubled relationship during three days with the little boy in Kamakura is wonderful time. I recommend you watch this short film, and thinking what is family.

I want to see again
goalkeeper-yuta2 July 2013
The husband and wife are suffering from not having their children. The husband character is funny and so kind that if I were the man who is married and having children, I want to become a good father like him. He aims to get the boy whose mother does not pick up her son.I can understand the husband's feeling, but I agree with the wife that the boy is not their child but other children. I do not know why their neighbor Ms.Yamada dislikes them. I think it is just discrimination and prejudice. I get a shock that the boy's mother was dead, and he always alone. It is very hard for the children who is very little to lead a life without their parents. He can not make up to his mother. In fact when I saw this movie, I feel complicated. Indeed content of this story is not funny but thoughtful. I likethis movie.

family love
pinefgsgsu24 December 2021
Three Days in Kamakura is a short drama film. The film was made in Japan in 2012. David and Keiko are married, but they are not getting along well partly because they can't have a baby. David works at an English conversation class for children. One day, he looks after Jay who is one of children in his class because Jay's mother doesn't come to pick him up. David and Keiko start to fix their relationship while spending time with Jay. They talk about their conflict to be parents of Jay or to contact the police. In the beginning of the film, David and Keiko don't share their thoughts because they are growing apart. However, they need to say their honest opinion about what to do with Jay. As a result, they are able to honestly face their relationship that is not going well. I believe the scene that David and Keiko talk sincerely to each other is the highlight of the film. I think the story depicts family love and the story is moving. I want to recommend this film to people who are looking for the moving stories or ones about family.

Beautiful Kamakura
Bell_091 August 2013
This story is around Japanese and British couple. They lives is beautiful Kamakura. The husband works as a teacher. One day, he took a boy at his workplace, and the couple spent a time with the boy. The boy is important role to patch up a strained relationship. I found that a child is not only object of their love but also various meaning between husband and wife relationship. This film is compelling and wonderful. The actors are splendid. I have a good feeling for the husband. He is very expressive, especially his smile is really charming. The wife's actress expresses sorrow like old and natural style of Japanese woman. The child boy is also good. He has a superb pure look. I love this film. This film tells me that child is important role of a couple. After this film, I think I want to be a good existence for my parents.

Good Movie
f-emiri21 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has 4 good characteristics. First, this movie portrays changes that characters make. The couple don't have baby because Keiko has a complex about a big wound. They feel a sense of distance each other. But they make certain of their love for each other by spending their time with a mixed race boy. Second, this movie stands for international marriage between Keiko and David by making characters speak English and Japanease. Also, this movie is set in Kamakura that many foreigners visits as a symbol of international. Third, this movie visualizes complex social structure by portrays various relationship issues. For example, relationship between parent and child, between neighbors and with boss. Finally, scenery depiction this movie has is very good. I am fascinated by the scene Keiko, David and the mixed race boy walk arong the sea. Thanks to these good characteristics, I enjoyed this movie.

Far and Near
AdamHawkes12 July 2013
A married couple, Keiko and David, live in Kamakura, Japan. They have no child, though, they are happy to be with each other. But, the relationship with their neighbor is not so good, and what is worse, the neighbor harasses them. David tries to be positive and cheer up Keiko, but she is too tired to accept his love. One day, David takes a little boy to their house because the boy is left by his mother in a school where David works. And David suggests that they take care of the boy instead of his mother, but Keiko objects and argues they call the police. Since the boy came to their house, their relationship has changed little by little.

This film represents the complex emotions and minds of people very well. This is why the actor playing David and the actress playing Keiko are great performers. The complicated relationship of the two is as if it was real.

In addition to this, this film taught me that happiness and joy are not far but near to us. We often run around to pursue them, but doing so blinds us to the genuine happiness close to us. It is, for example, our friends, partners and families.

I love this film, and you might love it too. Please watch this film and think about your happiness.

good husband
chtkhs25 December 2015
This is a story of one couple, a Japanese wife and foreign husband, who live in Kamakura. The husband works hard as an English teacher and loves her very much, but the wife falls into a depression. She wants to do nothing and has a cold attitude to him. The darkness of their room makes us gloomy like her. One day, however, a student of the husband in not picked up by his mother. The boy lives with the couple for two days. The husband comes up with an idea that they start their lives over. The husband is so kind and he is forced into troublesome roles. We pity him, but he is the strength of this dark movie. There isn't much dialogue in this movie, but we can understand the feeling of characters. Therefore, it is good at showing us the story.

Mysterious story
bitte_k_i10 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is the story about a husband, David, and a wife, Keiko. They are not a happy family. Keiko cannot have a child because of a physically problem. And she gives David the cold shoulder these days. One day a boy named Jay is left alone after the all other students go home with their parents at the English school. David calls Jay's mother many times but she does not answer. He asks Jay where his father is, then he says he down not know. So it occurs to David to keep him as their child. He brings Jay their home. Keiko tells David he should call the police, but he does not do so. Finally, he calls the police and Jay's father shows up to bring him home. After Jay's stay, the relationship between Keiko and David becomes good.

This story mainly shows us the healing power of children. Keiko is closed and depressed at first but after Jay shows up, she becomes healthy mentally. Jay makes them happy. And I think many people have had such sad feeling like David to their livers at least one time. So you will be able to sympathize with him. If not, this plot is interesting and maybe calms you when you finish watching.

So Deep and Interesting
satoshiwindow21 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Three Days in Kamakura" is a short family film made in Japan in 2012. In the movie, characters speak in English and Japanese mainly.

At the beginning of the movie, a guy, David, is sitting and drinking a cup of orange juice next to his sleeping wife. He looks at her anxiously, and then he leaves home with garbage to throw away. But after he leaves, a neighbor, Mrs. Yamada, takes it from the garbage station and puts it back in front of David's home. While David begins working and welcoming his students, his wife realizes their neighbor has returned the garbage. After he finishes his work, his colleague passes a key to lock the workplace. David goes home and notices that the garbage he left this morning is returned by Mrs. Yamada.

The movie has a complicated storyline with many active questions, and it is a good example of the "Show, Don't Tell" method. For example, David's wife's scar on her stomach tells us she has experience of surgery, and it also reminds us that she can't have a baby. I enjoys this film, and the style of not telling everything in dialogue.
