9 September 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Channel 4 first started broadcasting in Britain on Tuesday 2nd November 1982, and in 2012 the channel would be celebrating its 30th anniversary, and as part of these proceedings came this countdown programme, one of the things they are best known for doing, listing thirty of the category of programmes they are also best known for doing. This show counts down the thirty greatest, best known, most watched and funniest comedy programmes that Channel 4 have created and shown over the thirty years since launching, and the order was decided by a vote on the channel website by the British public. The comedy shows in the list were: Paul Merton: The Series, The World of Lee Evans, The Jack Dee Show, Star Stories, Saturday / Friday Night Live, Desmond's, Harry Hill, PhoneShop, The Armstrong and Miller Show, Friday Night Dinner, Smack the Pony, Bo' Selecta!, The Adam and Joe Show, The Comic Strip Presents…, Drop the Dead Donkey, Absolutely, Vic Reeves' Big Night Out, Fonejacker, Trigger Happy TV, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Da Ali G Show, Phoenix Nights, Brass Eye, Green Wing, Spaced, The Inbetweeners, Black Books, The IT Crowd, Peep Show and obvious and deserved number one Father Ted. Narrated by Sharon Horgan, with contributions from Smack the Pony's Fiona Allen, Shane Allen, Star Stories' Daisy Beaumont, PhoneShop's Tom Bennett, The Inbetweeners' Simon Bird, Kevin Bishop, The Inbetweeners' James Buckley, Phil Cornwell, Absolutely's Jack Docherty, Marc Dolan, Robert Duncan, Ben Elton, Neil Fitzmaurice, PhoneShop's Emma Fryer, Tamsin Greig, The Inbetweeners' Blake Harrison, Green Wing's Pippa Haywood, Charlie Higson, Desmond's star Ram John Holder, Jessica Hynes, Dom Joly, Frank Kelly, Absolutely's Gordon Kennedy, Shappi Khorsandi, Graham Lineham, Arthur Mathews, David Mitchell, Bob Mortimer, Desmond's star Carmen Munroe, Al Murray, Andrew Newman, Ardal O'Hanlon, Star Stories' Laura Patch, Ben Palmer, Simon Pegg, Victoria Pile, Sally Phillips, Nigel Planer, Lucy Porter, PhoneShop's Javone Prince, Vic Reeves, Green Wing's Julian Rhind-Tutt (Mac), Friday Night Dinner's Tom Rosenthal, Dave Spikey, Peep Show's Isy Suttie (Dobby), The Inbetweeners' Joe Thomas, Rhys Thomas, Stephen Tompkinson, Martin Trenaman, Robert Webb, Josh Widdicombe and Trix Worrell (creator of Desmond's). Very good!
