It's John Russo's Movie, Too and He Can Damn Well Do What He Wants With It
2 October 2014 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Three of the original contributers to George Romero's masterpiece The Night of the Living Dead got together to film additional material to edit into the public domain classic. Bill Hinzman reprises his role as the graveyard zombie who chases Barbara in the original. Not only is his role expanded but a clip of his unofficial sequel Flesheater makes it into the final cut of the 30th Anniversary Edition. Russo has provided the film with a new score to replace the stock music Romero used because he couldn't afford anything else. Purists were outraged and considered Russo's tampering a desecration. But you know what? If you don't like it you don't have to watch it and the fact is; the changes aren't that bad. Yes, they do detract from the film and I wouldn't rate this version a masterpiece but as the credits roll this is still an awesome horror movie. The revisions set up a sequel; The Children of the Living Dead and together form a loose trilogy with the Russo scripted The Return of the Living Dead from 1985.
