I was quite positively surprised
Kukkahattuseta3 December 2023
I knew nothing about the series when I started watching it. I do this quite often to keep the element of surprise. So I didn't know what to expect.

I was quite positively surprised. I'm not particularly a fan of this genre, but this series was done a little differently. Or rather, the atmosphere was different. The basic plot itself was not the most original, but the series managed to maintain a some amount of mystery and suspense till the end. The characters were not the most typical either.

It was also good that the series was not unnecessarily prolonged. The episodes were half an hour long and there were six of them. All in all, it was more of a long, episodic film.

It seems that the series will continue. That carries its own risks. Usually, the downward spiral starts at the very moment when the series starts to be stretched.

Poor script and acting
footscrayvic6 November 2023
I didn't know anything about this when I started watching it. Luckily the episodes weren't very long and so I was able to watch them reasonably quickly.

In summary, it wasn't really worth watching. The script is slow to develop and confusing as the character types aren't really explained. On top of that the acting is quite poor and melodramatic.

It seems to be some sort of a fairytale in a modern setting relating to arrange of different supernatural creatures, none of which are explained, or particularly interesting in or of themselves.

In summary, once again, don't bother to watch this , as you won't get those hours back again.

Could have been great but lacks logic
loeikat31 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Although the actors and images are to my opinion, pretty good, special effects are far from perfect, and more importantly, the story was really poorly written. So much that they had to cut it into confusing flashbacks, so that we don't piece together the lack of coherence of the whole story before the last episode.

But, once you get there, it looks like the young girl was sexually abused by multiple truckers, but... Well, she looks fine. Just a little cut on her lips. But no trauma, no fear. No big deal... Really?... So we're not sure she was abused. The older girl who was with her seems fine too. Weird, isn't it?

Now the weirdest part, is that vampire in the camp, who met the girl and liked her instantly. She could have told her to run away. She could have fought to protect her. She could have attacked the driver who brought them to the truckers... But no. She waited after, to tell her a useless story about a moving tree, and to give her the power to finally defend herself... That's not logical at all!

Not logical either is the good/bad police officer, who has his own demons and gets killed by them, or by kids, we don't know.

Also, there are serpent/religious people hunting for vampires for some reason we don't know.

That's a lot of weird beings for a small village!

And to top the whole thing, the end was very predictable.

Not my cup of tea!
Guanche4826 January 2024
It's not my type of series at all, so I didn't like it!. I thought it was going to be more horrifying, and less fantasy. I'm more of a horror fan. Having said this, the pace of the scenes is too slow and the music seemed to me to be on the verge of being unbearable and doesn't add more tension in my opinion. Music is so important!

I found the spooky Andalusian desert town a quite original choice, but the blend of fantasy horror and thriller didn't work for me, and most of the time you are trying to figure out what exactly is going on. It is a very confusing puzzle. A lot of it is left for interpretation. The horrish creatures are sometimes effective, like a reflection of humanity.

But again, not for me.

Worth a watch

Romancero delivers a supernatural cinematic experience that, while occasionally succumbing to genre clichés, provides an undeniably entertaining watch. The film's saving grace lies in its stellar cast, whose performances resonate with an authenticity that often transcends the script's limitations. Their ability to bring depth to their characters ensures that, even in the film's less inspired moments, there is something gripping about their portrayals.

Production-wise, the movie excels with its rich visual palette and meticulous attention to atmospheric detail. The set design, special effects, and cinematography work in concert to craft an eerie and immersive world that is both haunting and aesthetically arresting. This visual strength, coupled with a soundtrack that effectively accentuates the film's suspenseful and emotional beats, provides a sensory treat that almost distracts from the narrative's weaker spots.

In conclusion, while Romancero may tread familiar ground at times, it stands as a testament to what can be achieved through a combination of compelling acting and high production values. For those in search of supernatural thrills and a visually captivating journey, this film will likely satisfy, serving up a polished spectacle that makes for an engaging viewing experience.

How can you give it more than 2 Stars??
albtcamus5 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The intro says it all. Sooo, sooo stupid. Nothing makes sense. The first 5 minutes says turn on something else. Then they run and a motorcycle takes forever to see them. The dog somehow can't catch up. On and on, just stupid nonsense as if a 12yr old director choreographed all this. They just don't make series or movies like they use to. They just think everyone is an idiot and can't put 2 and 2 together. And maybe they are right. This series should be at best 3 stars. The world has changed and become so dumbed down. Waste of time folks, go open a bag of chips and watch the 8 cars go by your street. Yea no joking.

Watch on prime
cynvanity13 November 2023
Just seen it on Prime and it's a captivating Spanish supernatural horror series that masterfully intertwines dark real-life issues with elements of fantasy. Set in Andalusia, it follows the intense journey of two young characters, Cornelia and Jordán, as they navigate a night filled with danger and supernatural encounters. The series stands out for its complex storytelling and deep social commentary, although its fragmented narrative style can be somewhat confusing. Despite this, the intriguing plot and rich thematic undercurrent make "Romancero" a noteworthy watch for fans of horror and mystery. Released with minimal fanfare, this series, featuring a stellar cast and unique storytelling, is a hidden gem on Prime Video.

I'm impressed. This show emerges as a masterclass in suspenseful storytelling, expertly blending elements of tension, mystery, and supernatural intrigue. Romancero excels in keeping the audience perpetually on the edge, with each episode meticulously crafted to weave an increasingly tight web of suspense. This is achieved through a clever mix of unexpected plot twists and perfectly timed scares, creating a viewing experience that is as addictive as it is thrilling.

The cinematography is a standout feature, using shadows and lighting to evoke a constant sense of foreboding. This visual artistry is complemented by an equally impressive score, where the music is not just an accompaniment but an integral part of the narrative, elevating the tension and enhancing the emotional impact of each scene. The show's ability to immerse viewers in its enigmatic world is unparalleled, making it a binge-worthy journey filled with suspense, surprises, and a gripping atmosphere.
