A little Offbeat, but Fun

Warning: Spoilers
Like most anime, this one has a hint of an 'offbeat' feel, but for the most part it feels fresh, innocent and fun. In the first episode there is almost no jazz; just some drumming and a couple seconds of a jazz intro on piano. The main character, Kaoru, is a mama's boy who becomes ill at the slightest sign of tension. He unexpectedly is befriended by the ragamuffin scrapper of the school who teaches him a thing or two about 'feeling jazz'. He also begins to have a major crush on the childhood friend of his new pal. Really the only 'offbeat' aspect is that some scenes between Kaoru and Sentaro feel like the first meeting of two lovers in most shojo anime. This is not the case; they are only friends throughout the series, which is why it seems especially strange.
