Sam accompanies the Turners to a country mansion where the bids will take place. Here she meets Bernard Faroux, with whom she had a liaison in Tangiers and agrees to tell her who betrayed her if she can get him Turner's memory stick so that he can outbid him for the dam. In the event Turner wins the bid and Sam kills Faroux after he has tried to kill her. His dying word is 'Hour-glass'. At the same time new Byzantium operative Ian gets friendly with Ryder whilst 'Hour-glass' is seen to be printed on a file in the office where Natalie, Aidan's MI6 contact, who has been sleeping with him for information, works. Sam meets Faroux once again
19 October 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

The third episode of this thriller opens with a previously unseen couple stopping at a road works; a young man starts pounding on the car window saying that a second man is going to kill him. The woman lets him into the car and it soon becomes apparent that this was a serious mistake; not much later they are both dead! Sam meanwhile is going to a country hotel with the Turners; she is meant to be looking after their son while they deal with the bidding process for the Pakistani dam. Here she bumps into somebody from her past; Bernard Faroux, the man she double-crossed in Tangier shortly before she was shot. He wants her to give him the bid details, as do the people at Byzantium; the problem is they are in a sealed vault to which she has no access. Back in London it becomes clear that Aidan is actually working for MI-6 and somebody there knows about the plot to kill Sam.

This was another intriguing episode; the opening introduced a new mystery; who were the couple in the car? It later becomes clear who they were but not telling us sooner kept those events mysterious. It was good to see Faroux again as his appearance not only put Sam in danger it did so in a way that meant she knew she was in danger and had to act accordingly. This danger led to an exciting game of cat and mouse in the hotel's maze and a confrontation between Sam and Faroux where she would be given one clue about the people after her; that clue is the word 'Hourglass'. Once again the acting was pretty good and the story was complicated enough to keep it interesting without being so convoluted that it became confusing. When it was all over I was left wanting to know what happened next; always a good thing in a serial.
