‘Industry unfair to outsiders’ – Prachi Desai

4 July 2012 12:24 AM, PDT | indicine | See recent indicine news »

Prachi Desai is one of the few outsiders who have managed to make it big in filmdom. But the actress, who hopes to do 25 films in future, says it is not so easy for such people to get first break in Bollywood.

“I feel that the industry can be unfair sometimes. When you are an outsider, people don’t take you seriously. I personally think you need an extreme push for people to promote you and bring you to a certain level,” said the 23-year-old.

The young actress, who started her career as the lead in TV show “Kasamh Se”, made her Bollywood debut opposite Farhan Akhtar in “Rock On!!”. She was then seen in “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai”, in which she was paired with Emraan Hashmi, and also was in the cast of recently released “Teri Meri Kahaani”.Read More »

Priyanka Chopra: 'It's hard for a girl to be a casanova'

3 July 2012 7:04 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Priyanka Chopra has admitted it is hard for women to be as forward as men. The actress previously had an on-off relationship with Teri Meri Kahaani co-star Shahid Kapoor. She told The Times of India: "People keep speculating about my personal life because I am evasive about it. When there's an announcement worth making, I will talk. I don't like being under the microscope constantly and having to explain myself, being subjected to that sort of judgement. "Speculation is part of my business. I'm used to it - not that I like it, I hate it. It upsets me, but I don't think it's right to put myself out there, especially as a girl. Maybe if I were a man, I would have been a philandering casanova. "As a girl, I am this stupid, emotional, very loyal, sort of believe-in-values-and-principles sort of girl. It's very (more) »

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter slays competition at UK box office

Historical action film about early Us president drives a stake through the heart of the Men in Black

Fresh blood

A cursory glance reveals that king of the heap is Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, with £1.12m. However, in reality, the high-concept historical actioner landed in fifth place for the weekend, with £744,000. The discrepancy between those two figures is accounted for by preview takings on Wednesday and Thursday, enough to send the film leapfrogging over its rivals. Bekmambetov's film was always going to be a tricky sell at the UK box office: films about early Us presidents have tended not to flourish here (anyone recall Jefferson in Paris, from 1995?). As for star Benjamin Walker, he's hardly a marquee name in the Us either, but at least he enjoys some profile there for stage hit musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, about another early Us president.

'Teri Meri Kahaani': three times a charm

24 June 2012 6:25 PM, PDT | The Bollywood Ticket | See recent The Bollywood Ticket news »

'Teri Meri Kahaani' (2012)

Starring Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra

"Thrice upon a love story" is the tagline of the film, which follows the trajectory of two lovers over the course of three lifetimes. Each romantic vignette is simple and breezy—there's no high drama, the time spent together is brief and the conflicts rather small—the suspense is in the structure. How the stories fit together, other than the fact that the love interests are the same, is a mystery. Trust that they do, in enchanting fashion.

The pair in question fall in love in 1910, 1960, and 2012. The characters have no memory of their previous lives, and their obliviousness to their own arc makes their stories sweeter. The film opens in the middle of this chronology, during the innocent, changing times of the mid-century, when a penniless musician meets a movie starlet on a train bound for Bombay. They bump »

Teri Meri Kahaani – Thrice upon a ‘fashion’ story…

23 June 2012 10:01 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Teri Meri Kahaani is the big Bollywood release this week and the movie, which sees Priyanka Chopra paired opposite Shahid Kapoor for the second time, is set between three time periods, 1910, 1960 and 2012.

Three time periods, means an excuse for three different fashion styles and with the baadshah of Bollywood fashion, Manish Malhotra, behind the costume design we at Bollyspice thought it would only be fair to look at the popular styles of these eras.

1910 Fashion

This picture of an Indian lady in 1910 shows the style of sari that would have been worn in that era.

In the movie, in 1910, Priyanka Chopra takes on the role of Punjabi girl Aradhana and is seen sporting a number of Punjabi style colourful suits. As Priyanka Chopra told the media playing a girl from that era proved tough because, “there was no reference point for it except some books. Kunal managed to get some »

Teri Meri Kahaani Movie Review

23 June 2012 7:00 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Love stories usually start with the boy meeting the girl. And then? The story can get breezy, or it can get intense or maybe heart-breaking. Kunal Kohli’s Teri Meri Kahaani has Shahid Kapoor meeting Priyanka Chopra over three lifetimes, which means going through the whole gamut of emotions thrice.

1960 – Struggling musician Govind meets film star Rukhsar and the attraction is immediate.

2012 – College student Krish bumps into Radha a couple of hours after breaking up with his girlfriend and instantly feels a connection.

1910 – The village Casanova Javed falls for the feisty Anuradha who puts her country before anything else.

The path of true love is never easy, at least it isn’t in Hindi films, and misunderstandings/miscommunications lead to separation. Will true love conquer all in the end?

Kunal Kohli’s attempt is to steer clear of melodrama and keep things sweet and simple – a bit too simple at times. »

Shahid Kapoor says 100crs club is just fad - Realbollywood.com News

Thane, June 23: Film makers of bollywood may be fascinated with the 100 crs figure but star actor Shahid Kapoor is not amused with it and feels 100crs club is just a fad. While promoting his film 'Teri Meri Kahaani' in Ahmedabad says, "The 100 crore club is just a fad which is in the industry for the past three years. The films which come under this category are of a certain genre and are done by those actors who have been in the industry for the last 20 years. It takes a certain amount of time to reach the heartland of our country."

Dull start for Tere Mere Kahaani and Gangs Of Wasseypur

It was an interesting clash at the box-office this week, whereby a three time span love story, Kunal Kohli's Teri Meri Kahaani, released against Anurag Kashyap's violent action hinterland drama, Gangs Of Wasseypur. Though both the films belonged to diametrically opposite genres, yet the audience did not give a whole hearted response to either of the two ventures. This week's new films

22 June 2012 4:06 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Silent Souls (15)

(Aleksei Fedorchenko, 2010, Rus) Igor Sergeev, Yuriy Tsurilo, Yuliya Aug. 78 mins

Even by Russian standards, this lyrical road movie is a strange world of its own. It's a journey back in time, as much as across a remote landscape, with a friend helping his boss to give his deceased wife her last rites, according to their ancient tribal ways. Along the drive, we're steeped in strange folklore involving vodka, rivers, small birds and ornamental pubic hair. Is it for real? Or an elaborate joke told with a very straight face? Does it matter?

The Five Year Engagement (15)

(Nicholas Stoller, 2012, Us) Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Chris Pratt. 124 mins

The obstacle to true love is built into the title of this romcom, but it's at least smartly handled, as high-flyer Blunt keeps her fiance in perpetual limbo.

Where Do We Go Now? (12A)

(Nadine Labaki, 2011, Fra/Leb/Egy/Ita) Claude Baz Moussawbaa, »
