Horsell Common, where the woodland scenes were filmed, is the original landing site of the Martians in HG Wells' classic novella 'The War of the Worlds'.
The film was shot using the Redrock Micro 35mm adapter, with old Olympus OM stills lenses. The camera used was the Sony FX1. Sound was recorded externally.
The sound mix was done at Pinewood Studios, whilst the final mix for The Golden Compass was being conducted in the next door theatre.
The weather was so variable during the shoot, that in some shots the crew experienced bright sunshine, rain, clouds and hail. During the lakeside scene, actor Christopher Fletcher had to be wrapped in a heavy down jacket between takes to stave off hypothermia.
The 'wolfcam' scenes were shot on a Canon 1014XL-S s8mm camera and blown up to HD.
