Less a rollicking comedy and more a talent show with a few laughs.

Monte Collins stars in "Sea Sore". However, the story is very slight in this one and the bulk of the short film seems to be on a variety of bad musical acts, including 'Baby' Rose Marie...who isn't at her best in this one.

Collins wants to marry a young lady but her father is against it because Monte is out of work. However, when he is hired for a lowly job on a cruise ship, he makes the most of it...pretending, at first, to be the first mate and later, the captain! Considering he never worked on a ship before, you'd THINK that folks would realize he was faking it...but they believe him...at least for a while. See the film to see what happens as well as how he and the real captain end up naked!

The short either would have been better with more (and better) variety acts OR a stronger story with more comedy. As it is, it's pretty limp in both regards. What's worse is that Collins' song obviously was NOT sung on the ship like the other acts and the background is very cheap.

Monte Collins Stars

Monte Collins wants his girl's father to approve of him, so he steals the uniform of the captain of the tour boat he works on, leading the captain to wander around nude.

It's one of those shorts with a few acts and enough of a story to bring it up to a full two reels. The acts consist of radio performers of the day: Arthur Tracy, who sang ballads, a couple of fellows billing themselves as 'Sisters of the Skillet', bandleader Freddie Martin, and Baby Rose Marie.

I first knew Rose Marie when she was a regular on the Dick Van Dyke Show when I was a a kid. I didn't know that she had started out in show business in the 1920s as a singer. Here she sings a hot jazz number, and is the highlight of this uninspiring short.
