Storyline

Oliver is arrested by Det. Lance who believes he is the vigilante, Arrow. Charged with several crimes including murder, Oliver gets Laurel Lance to represent him - she doesn't think it's a good idea but agrees when he refuses to take on anyone else. Confined to house on bail and having to wear an electronic ankle bracelet. Oliver has his own plans which will not only set him free but stop arms dealer Leo Muller, one of the men on his father list. Flashbacks reveal Oliver's early days on the island and his first encounter with Edward Fyers whose main interest is primarily Yao Fei. His refusal to cooperate leaves him in the hands of Deathstroke. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

When Oliver and Laurel walk into a bedroom in the Queen mansion, Laurel remarks that she can't remember the last time they were in there together and Oliver says it was when they were getting ready for Tommy's Halloween party. Laurel then says "Right, those fishnet stockings. I don't know what I was thinking." This is a reference to the comics where, as her alter ego Black Canary, the classic costume includes fishnet stockings. See more »

Best episode yet

While the premise of Arrow seems painfully predictable, the creators have found a formula to make it ever more interesting with each new episode! This alone is worth complimenting - although I'm starting to suspect this season has more tricks up its sleeves ...

Comparisons to Batman Begins as an origins base are right on the money, but I don't hold it against Arrow one bit. Hey, if you offer escapism at its best in return, and if you're gonna steal, steal from the best, right:) This particular episode, however, transcends its Batman origins for the first time and actually, especially with the ending itself, displays qualities of The Dark Knight. Boldness finally paid off, I hope they keep it up!

Like the 1st season of Spartacus a couple of years ago (and the now legendary 1st season of Prison Break before that), this show has successfully unloaded the burden of becoming a predictable stereotype of utterly uninspired, lazy writing. Arrow is more entertaining than I thought it deserved to be, and that's what'll keep me returning till the end of season 1.

If there's no purgatory afterwards, who can tell?
