August TV Premieres: 12 New Shows To Look Out For This Month

4 August 2017 10:06 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Summer TV is almost over. (Didn’t it seem like just yesterday when “Twin Peaks” was right around the corner?)

As audiences begin the final push towards fall, there are still new shows worth your time. We’ve gathered some of this month’s biggest TV premieres from across network, cable and streaming to add to your personal viewing calendar.

“What Would Diplo Do?” (August 3, Viceland)

James Van Der Beek takes the role of a lifetime as Diplo, the world-famous DJ (who may or may not have spoiled West Coast viewers on the “Breaking Bad” Season 4 finale back in 2011). As Van Der Beek told IndieWire’s Liz Shannon Miller, it’s a series that fulfills a career-long dream, in a way. How well does he pull off the beanie look and channel an internationally recognized producer? We’re eager to find out.

What Jamie Foxx Looks Like as Marvel's Blade

29 June 2017 1:05 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Blade, even before the first X-Men movie managed to bring superheroes into the modern age of cinema, was a successful comic book franchise. With the box office power that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shown over the years, there has been talk of possibly bringing the vampire hunter back into the fold at some point. Wesley Snipes has expressed interest in returning to the part, but it may be too little, too late for that. So, who's next up? How about Jamie Foxx?

Prolific artist BossLogic decided to give us a look at what a new version of Blade, as portrayed by Jamie Foxx, could look like. Normally, BossLogic tends to do these as a response to people who've been recently cast in the role, or are rumored to be in the running. In this case, BossLogic has taken it upon himself to just throw out a name that might work and show us why. »

Sony Won’t Release Clean Versions of Films if Directors Disapprove

14 June 2017 1:40 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Updated: After coming under fire, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revised its “clean version” initiative that allowed viewers to screen edited versions of two dozen of the studio’s films. Sony now says it won’t sell such movies if directors object.

“Our directors are of paramount importance to us and we want to respect those relationships to the utmost,” said Sphe president Man Jit Singh in a statement on Wednesday. “We believed we had obtained approvals from the filmmakers involved for use of their previously supervised television versions as a value added extra on sales of the full version. But if any of them are unhappy or have reconsidered, we will discontinue it for their films.” Related

Judd Apatow Has Some Colorful Words For Sony’s ‘Clean Versions’ Movies Plan

14 June 2017 7:11 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Add Judd Apatow to the list of filmmakers and creators not too pumped about Sony Pictures’ newly announced “Clean Version” initiative. The filmmaker has issued a very colorful statement regarding the studio’s plan to offer edited — read: “clean” — versions of some of its titles on various streaming platforms. As Variety notes, these “Clean Versions” are the exact same ones used for broadcast TV or airline viewing, adding another weird wrinkle into the story.

Still, Apatow isn’t buying it, and he’s not alone.

The filmmaker took to Twitter yesterday to sound off on his thoughts on the plan, and they are, amusingly enough, the kind of thoughts that would definitely be edited out of a Clean Version of the Sony movie about this tweet.

Judd Apatow to Sony: ‘Shove the Clean Versions of Movies Up Your A–!’

13 June 2017 6:19 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Directors Guild of America and Judd Apatow have objected to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment “clean version” initiative allowing viewers to screen edited versions of two dozen Sony films.

The studio announced on June 7 that it was making the broadcast TV or airline version of these 24 titles available when a consumer purchases a film in its original form on iTunes, Vudu, and FandangoNOW. The DGA said in a statement Tuesday that Sony is violating the guild’s master contract with the major studios.

“Directors have the right to edit their feature films for every non-theatrical platform, plain and simple,” the DGA said. “Taking a director’s edit for one platform, and then releasing it on another — without giving the director the opportunity to edit — violates our Agreement. Throughout the years, the DGA has achieved hard-fought creative rights gains protecting our members from such practices. As creators of their films, directors »

Sony Debuts ‘Clean Version’ of 24 Movies Via iTunes, Vudu, Fandango

7 June 2017 10:03 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has launched a “clean version” initiative allowing viewers to screen edited versions of two dozen Sony films.

The studio is making the broadcast TV or airline version of these 24 titles available when a consumer purchases a film in its original form on iTunes, Vudu, and FandangoNOW.

Seth Rogen, who produced and starred in Sony’s “The Interview” and “Sausage Party,” objected to the initiative following Tuesday’s announcement, tweeting a profanity-laden response.

Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) June 6, 2017

“Holy sh– please don’t do this to our movies. Thanks,” Rogen wrote.

“The Clean Version allows viewing for a wider audience, giving people the chance to watch their favorite films together,” Sony said. “Clean Version movies can be accessed with purchase of the theatrical versions.”

Sony Plans to Release ‘Clean Versions’ of Movies Like ‘Step Brothers,’ And Seth Rogen Is Pissed Off About It

7 June 2017 7:25 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Sony Pictures is making headlines for the introduction of their new “Clean Version” initiative. The effort is an attempt to bring the edited versions of movies that air on broadcast television and airplanes without mature content in them to home viewers through streaming platforms like iTunes, Vudu, and FandangoNOW. So if you ever wanted to stream “Step Brothers” without any curse words or explicit material, then you’re in luck. We’re not sure why you would, though.

Seth Rogen is equally baffled by the new initiative, the first round of which being released includes 24 films. Most of the titles are PG-13 and therefore won’t see too much of a dramatic edit, but that can’t be said for “Step Brothers,” which has to be the most head-scratching title included in the “Clean Version” project. »

Sony are to make cleaner versions of their more adult movies

6 June 2017 9:39 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Sony Pictures have announced that they are looking to make slightly cleaner versions of their more adult movies. The ‘Clean Version’ initiative will take a series of titles and make them more appropriate for younger viewers, and will be available on the VOD platforms including iTunes.

Launch titles include: 50 First Dates, Battle Of The Year, Big Daddy, Captain Phillips, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Easy A, Elysium, Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Goosebumps, Grown Ups, Grown Ups 2, Hancock, Inferno, Moneyball, Pixels, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Step Brothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and White House Down.

Sony have already launched CleanVersionMovies.com where more info can be found. The controversial move hopes to combat piracy – some third-parties have been known to re-edit movies taking all of the more adult content out of movies – with Sony being the first major studio to make the move. »

Seth Rogen Rallies Against Sony Releasing Clean Versions of Raunchy Movies

6 June 2017 4:30 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment launched a new initiative today called Clean Version, which allows fans to watch versions of movies that have been edited and adapted for a wider family audience. The studio launched their first wave of 24 titles released under this initiative, many of which are not even R-rated, with PG-13 movies such as the original Spider-Man trilogy, the two Amazing Spider-Man movies and much more. These titles will be made available to purchase starting today on Digital HD through iTunes, Vudu and FandangoNow, with the Clean Version found in the Extras section of each movie, so fans will get both the original version and the Clean Version. Seth Rogen, who has a long standing relationship with the studio, thinks this is a horrible idea.

Final Trailer for Magic Box Horror Film 'Wish Upon' Starring Joey King

23 May 2017 9:02 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Want your wish granted?" You know what, I don't think I do. Broad Green Pictures has debuted on final trailer for the horror film Wish Upon, arriving in theaters this summer after being delayed for a few months. We've already seen a few other trailers before, and this one just rehashes all that same footage, so you should know what to expect by now (including most of the kills). The plot is about a high school girl who finds a mysterious, magical box that grants her wishes - mostly to get revenge on those bullying her. But she must pay the price when her requests turn into nightmares. Joey King (from The Conjuring, White House Down) stars, also with Sherilyn Fenn, Ryan Phillippe, Elisabeth Röhm, Shannon Purser, Ki Hong Lee, Sydney Park and Alice Lee. As much as this seems like a cool horror concept, I'll likely pass on this. »

Channing Tatum Lands The Role Of George Washington For Animation Pic America: The Motion Picture

31 March 2017 7:01 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

When he’s not stealing the show in Kingsman: The Secret Service or plotting the future of the Jump Street franchise alongside Jonah Hill – that much-touted crossover with Men in Black has essentially ground to a halt, but James Bobin remains attached nonetheless – Channing Tatum is busy scooping up roles in Triple Frontier and Steven Soderberg’s Nascar heist pic Logan Lucky, while Gambit continues to languish in development hell.

But after saving the Potus in White House Down, Deadline brings word that Channing Tatum is ready to assume the presidential role himself for animated pic America: The Motion Picture. Matt Thompson is directing a script penned by Dave Callaham (The Expendables), with Tatum on board to voice George Washington. Perhaps most interesting of all, America: The Motion Picture is pitched as an R-rated feature that presents a revisionist take on the formation of the United States during the 18th century. »

Second Trailer for Magic Box Horror Film 'Wish Upon' with Joey King

"There have been others who have had the box. They all died in freak accidents. And now its come to you." Broad Green Pictures has debuted a second trailer for the upcoming horror thriller Wish Upon, about a magical box a young woman receives that causes more problems than anything. She uses it to make wishes and mess with the people bullying her, but must pay the price when her requests turn into nightmares. This trailer doesn't show that much more footage which makes me a bit concerned there's not much to this. Plus it's so clearly obvious that the blood has been turned black so the MPAA doesn't complain, which is just frustrating. Joey King (seen in The Conjuring, White House Down) stars, with Sherilyn Fenn, Ryan Phillippe, Elisabeth Röhm, Shannon Purser, Ki Hong Lee, Sydney Park and Alice Lee. See below. Brian Cox’s Churchill film gets a sumptuous trailer and a June release date

21 March 2017 6:01 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Jon Lyus

As with Deep Impact and Armageddon, White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen there are to be two films released in 2017 focusing on Winston Churchill. Joe Wright is following up his gaze into the Black Mirror with Darkest Hour, which looks at the fight against Hitler in the early days of World War II. An almost unrecognisable Gary Oldman is our Churchill in Wright’s film, alongside Lily James, Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn and the late John Hurt in his last filmed role.

Lionsgate have Brian Cox as their Prime Minister in the new film from The Railway Man director Jonathan Teplitzky. Unambiguously titled Churchill, the film sees Cox lead a cast which includes Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, Ella Purnell, Richard Durden, Julian Wadham and James Purefoy.

In contrast to Darkest Hour this take on Churchill’s life finds its feet on the days approaching the D-Day landings. »
