Serves its sole function of being a trailer looking for something to trail
This short film is listed in IMDb but a quick bit of reading around reveals that it is really a first step in the hope of making it into a fuller film or series based around the adventures of a gang of intergalactic thieves who are going to be pursued by someone they robbed while they also pull off one heist at a time as they attempt to get themselves home. As an idea it is a nice one and this teaser/stinger sets it up nicely in terms of tone (although not really plot). We see the gang pull off a heist in a casino on a space station, complete with cool robot, sexy girl, wise cracking gun play and enigmatic British villain.
As a standalone short film it is limited because we don't get any sense of the characters or story but its function is to work as a trailer and as such it works very well. It has an Oceans 11 style to it and although it is a little cheesy it does present a nice sense of fun and sexiness as the heist is pulled off, while the robot and the ever-welcome Sean Pertwee add some cool points. Bower and Mison maybe don't have too much time to establish a screen presence and it would be good to see if they had some Clooney-esque charm to back up the slick banter, likewise, as good as Abe looks changing from cocktail dress into spacesuit, it would be nice to see her do more. Visually the film is well done for sure some limits in the effects and sets, but mostly it looks very good for what it is.
As a trailer it delivers because you will probably wish to see more of it, just a shame that 5 years down the line nothing appears to have come of it.
