Trivia

The "million dollar" bill that advertised the church was based on a similar bill writer/producer Chris Provenzano brought back from Harlan, where he went for a research trip before the fourth season. See more »

Goofs

Waldo Truth's Driver's License, found in a bag in a wall in Arlo's home, was issued 06-19-1980, but when Raylan showed the license to Arlo in prison he said to Arlo that the license was issued 09-07-1979. Additionally, Waldo's address was listed on the license as being: 908 Fairway Dr., Versailles, KY 40383, but the issuing county was listed on the license as 'Henderson' County, KY. Versailles, KY is located in 'Woodford' County, KY, not 'Henderson' County, KY. See more »

Quotes

Boyd Crowder: [behind Boyd sits a man duck-taped to a chair, with a stick of dynamite under each testicle] Take care of him
[nods behind him, & walks away]
Colton 'Colt' Rhodes: [pulls out a gun & shoots the man taped in the chair]
Boyd Crowder: [startled by the shot, turns, shouting] WHAT in th'HELL 'd you DO THAT FOR?
Colton 'Colt' Rhodes: You said to take care of him.
Boyd Crowder: I-I-I meant cut him loose.
Colton 'Colt' Rhodes: [looking embarrassed] Oh... shit.
Boyd Crowder: Well I guess I have to be more careful with my words.

Strange things are afoot

There's a lot to like about 'Hole in the Wall' as a season kickoff, but opting for an overarching mystery instead of another Big Bad is a intriguing choice; defies expectations, keeps things fresh. To that end, it does a great job with sleigh-of-hand. Boyd's at the top of the Harlan oxy trade, but business is threatened by a startup church; and Ellen May, tormented by a guilty conscience over Delroy has become a willing parishioner (as well as a threat to the Crowders). She's never been a particularly sharp knife, but you just know that her days are numbered.

On the lighter side is Raylan, who's always been kind of a dick, but is currently pushing that envelope. Still, he's at the funny end of that spectrum. Even lighter is Constable Bob (Patton Oswalt) with his go-bag and big dreams of becoming a real agent of law enforcement ("This shít goes Road Warrior, man, I'm ready!").

All of this while an inexplicable courier bag turns up in Arlo's house. There's a lot of structuring at work here, but entertaining nonetheless.
