Storyline

Life's a beach for surfers Brady and McKenzie -- until a rogue wave magically transports them inside the classic '60s beach party flick, Wet Side Story, where a full-blown rivalry between bikers and surfers threatens to erupt. There, amidst a sea of surfing, singing and dancing, Brady and Mack accidentally change the storyline, and the film's dreamy hero and heroine fall for them instead of for each other! Very pleasant surprise!
21 July 2013 | by See all my reviews

I'm going to be honest, I wasn't planning on watching this. My little sister was very hyped up over this and recorded it the night it premiered and loved it. The next morning as we were waiting for something she turned it on and I had enough interest to finish it.

In short, the movie is silly. VERY silly. But it's a very GOOD silly. It really captures the essence of those old 60s beach movies. People seem to forget that this is basically what that is. After all, the title *is* "Teen Beach Movie." If you haven't seen those movies before, you might not enjoy it nearly as much.

The music is a fun throwback (I LOVE 60s music). I found it quite funny, especially when you take into consideration that this is basically a giant parody. The characters in the musical might seem flat, but it IS a *teen beach movie.* They're stupid and shallow because that's how they were written decades ago. The same applies to the plot.

I especially loved how they portrayed two different people being suddenly thrown into a musical, with one loving it and one can't standing it. Brady's and Mack's music number "I Can't Stop Singing" was my favorite, with them being confused about what was going on and how they wished they could stop but they couldn't.

Besides that, there are good messages, such as doing what you want and even feminist ideas (girls are equal to boys).

If you come here to see an Oscar-material movie, you have made a huge mistake. If you come to have some silly fun for an hour and half, you have come to the right place.

And remember: IT IS A PARODY. Don't take it too seriously.
