Everybody following my entries would know that I am an ardent admirer of Natascha McElhone as Karen. From the very first moment she appeared on my screen years ago, I was enthralled with her. To the point of worship! Karen is the ideal mate for Hank, and their starstruck romance is a bittersweet display of thwarted affection, and that is the heart of CALIFORNICATION. My observation here is reflected by every fan of this series.
Comes the Sixth Season, and enters Maggie Grace as Faith. I am so much in awe of this lady that even Liam Neeson would approve although I wouldn't dare put that to the test (a little inside joke there for which you'd have to know about TAKEN) and I do not know how the average fan feels about her, but, wow! Muse Faith has got to be on a par with Karen in the classy stakes.
Just look at her. As I sneaked into my synopsis, 'her mirror smooth legs'. But just listen to her, her gentle way of talking, her gentle way of thinking, and in this episode, "Anybody can be cynical, Hank. Dare to be an optimist." Put CALIFORNICATION into a time vault and open it once we are all dead and gone and forgotten, and it will speak about life here on Planet Earth during our crazy existence during the heady early Twenty-First Century, and Graceful Maggie will be revered by generations yet unborn.
This will happen. I am currently witnessing a timeless classic.
I have just been doing the synopsis for this episode right here on this site, and I am not allowed there to have an opinion, so I thought I'd just do this shout-out. Maggie Grace, aptly surnamed, gets my vote as One of the Two Classiest Chicks I've Ever Seen On Film. The other one being Natascha McElhone. Sounds like I haven't put much effort into my decision, them being from the same show. But this show is CALIFORNICATION and I'm damn well bursting with pride now for having such exceedingly good taste. Thank you, liberal America.
