Hazardous, but also uplifting

Flame Princess is on the warpath, Finn's got the hots for her, and you just know this can't end well. Jake's unleashed trouble by bringing her to the treehouse, and only he seems to realize it.

"No, really man, her Dad said she was evil!"

"Nah, man. I peeped beyond her burning gaze and noshed hot lunch with her soul. She ain't evil. She's passionate."

Any relationship that can be had between Finn and Flame Princess would be tempestuous at best (hell, even FP knows they can't be together). Action-wise, 'Hot to the Touch' has a rampaging fire monster and the Goblin Kingdom under threat (saddle up the fireproof mechs, baby!), but in the end, this is all about teenage heartbreak. And hormones. Lots of those.

It's pretty heavy stuff, but at least we see signs of Finn mending his soul. At least for now.

A heartwarming opening to the season.

Warning: Spoilers
Continuing on from the ending of season 3, this episode truly introduces a new conflict with Finn as a character; the issue of choosing to pursue a romantic interest over his hero instincts and doing what's 'right', actions of which both counteract each other.

Even I was teary on the inside when you saw Finn's heartfelt and brave manner towards approaching Flame Princess and having the courage to tell her his feelings, in addition to looking beyond the evil others saw and gain a glimpse of true internal innocence of the newly introduced flame princess.

This episode, whilst highlighting a new step of progress for Finn as a character, also introduces Frame Princess in a way which firmly establishes her future role as a major character later on in the series . But overall, seriously, who wasn't encouraged by the fact that Finn actually showed some signs of success regarding his 'love life'?

Warning: Spoilers
The season four premiere episode "Hot To The Touch" was probably the most emotional episode that I've seen so far in this series, in my opinion.

Flame Princess is a incredibly quickly developed character. In the beginning she was portrayed as a simple evil being by the Flame King, but in this episode, she seems to be a more confused character, still learning about the world around her (She seemed to not know what water was, or how her fire spreads). Or, as Finn describes her, passionate. Her personality adds another level of emotion to the story of Finn's love life as well.

Speaking about Finn, he has one of the most emotional moments in this show, in my opinion ("Why can't I just like a girl?"). There have been many mildly sad/meaningful moments in the show, but this was the only one (for now) that actually made me feel sad.

Nevertheless, the humor in this episode is well balanced with the emotional aspect. Jake and returning character N.E.P.T.R. are the main sources of this humor, mainly coming from their amazingly written lines. I think this episode had almost everything I want in a cartoon, from the hilarity to the emotion to the well timed returning characters. It's such a great episode.

However, undoubtedly the most emotional moment is that goblin's cart getting destroyed. He was born there, man!
