Storyline

Mishka Yaponchik was a Ukrainian gangster, Jewish, lived in Odessa at the beginning of the XX century, the military leader of two thousand of gangsters and the prototype of Benia Krik in The "Odessa Tales" by Soviet Jewish writer Isaak Babel. Born Moisei Vinnitsky, Yaponchik ("the Japanese") was an exceptional and eccentric character. Hailed as the next Robin Hood, he established his own code of conduct forbidding the robbing of the poor and professional classes. Artistic and witty, his bold crimes were played out like mini dramas. He used to give money and food to orphans, the homeless, the unemployed, newlyweds as well as families who had fallen victim to gangster crime. He held the hearts of the people in his hand and soon controlled the entire city. The drama narrates about Yaponchik's rise to power, his daring crimes, his idealism and generosity and the only one love of his life... Written by Larissa Voronovska

Very Good Almost Perfect Movie
15 October 2012 | by (Greece) – See all my reviews

I love this TV-series because it shows the real life of first MOBS(Mafia) in Soviet Union(CCCP).The story which is based on real events, war and life gives unique style to the movie as powerful as it can be.By my opinion people who loves mafia movies should see it. The story which starts at the Odessa city of Ukraine in 1905 show us the simple life of Jews people and the kind of bissines that they were doing. The Friendship,Trust,Lies,Morders,Government Betraydes,Love and much more like action, agony, mystery are expected and provides in it.Miska Japonchik are known as a legend between Jews people most known as "King", the only one who make up with Government and Soviet Armies.A guy from poor family who make his way to the top making a lot of dicisions and choises.
