Storyline

Set in post-World War II Manhattan, Sharkskin tells the story of custom tailor Mike Esposito's encounters with local mobsters who run the neighborhood. Mike is drawn into the mob when Mafia Don Piano orders Mike to make a suit for a special occasion. Mike becomes enamored with and later repelled by the mob's operations and whereby he confronts his morality and principles that he lives by and puts his family in jeopardy. Written by Dan Perri

Anne DeSalvo was originally to play Lilly. Toni Kalem was originally to play Aunt Rosie. In 1999 the director filmed over an hour of cut footage shot on Mini DV with another group of actors playing the Esposito children. In 1991, an award winning short film was made of the first act of Sharkskin with an original cast including Joe Spano as Mike, Gailard Sartain as Don Piano, Millie Perkins as Lilly and newcomer Adam Stone as son Sammy. Famed Academy Award winning cinematographer Conrad Hall photographed the original short film of Sharkskin. Composer Angelo Badalamenti wrote the music for the Sharkskin short film. Director Ron Shelton acted as Executive Producer for the Sharkskin short film. Actor Pat Cupo is the only cast member to play the same role of Vinnie 'The Spray' in both the original short and the feature version of Sharkskin. See more »
