Ranbir's Bombay Velvet is good to dull, 40 crore for Big B's Piku!

15 May 2015 9:37 PM, PDT | GlamSham | See recent GlamSham news »

Anurag Kashyap's lavishly mounted authentic vintage project, the Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar starrer, Bombay Velvet, started on a good to decent note. While the high end multiplexes of metros started at around 40-45 percent, many of the big city cinemas were lower at 25 percent. What is heartening to note is that there was a pronounced pick up during the latter shows. Having said that, Bombay Velvet is an expensive project (80 crore as per Anurag Kashyap), the film will have to sustain for a couple of weeks to succeed.

Meanwhile last week's, Amitabh, Irrfan and Deepika starrer Piku, saw a rock steady first week netting in excess of 40 crore from India. Given that the Shoojit Sircar directed film has had a good eighth day, both in India and the overseas, Piku is on way to be sure shot hit, and another success for the maverick director after Vicky Donor and Madras CAFÉ. »

Is Piku's sequel on the cards?

11 May 2015 6:48 AM, PDT | GlamSham | See recent GlamSham news »

Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan starrer Piku, which released last Friday, has opened to mostly positive reviews.

Ask the director Shoojit Sircar if any sequel is on the cards and he says with straight face sarcasm, "We are making it into a TV series. We are planning about 8-9 sequels. "

In a serious tone he added, "If I wanted to make a sequel, I would have made Vicky Donor's sequel first. I need to have an idea for Piku's sequel first. If I get one, I will announce it myself." »

Piku Movie Review

9 May 2015 11:16 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Relationships are complicated things. Real relationships are emotionally exploitative, and we are sometimes the exploited and sometimes the exploiter. The regular commercial films don’t (or can’t afford to) have insights like these. It is the slice of life films like Piku that show us how the relationships that suffocate us can also be the ones that mean the most to us.

So we have the perpetually irritable Piku (Deepika Padukone) whose hypochondriac father Bhaskor (Amitabh Bachchan) is obsessed with his bowel movements. A difficult man to live with, he is nonetheless the centre of Piku’s universe. Into this not-so-cozy family enters Rana (Irrfan), the taxi stand owner who volunteers to drive Piku and Bhaskor to Kolkata after all his drivers refuse to drive the constantly bickering father-daughter duo. He observes them and begins to understand Piku’s frustrations.

It’s all about loving your parents but not the Karan Johar way. »

Piku: 2015’s First Family Entertainer coming your way!

29 April 2015 11:18 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

The makers of Vicky Donor are back with 2015’s first family entertainer, Piku starring stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan! Quirky and funny with oodles of situational humor, the film highlights the eccentricities within every Indian family, told in signature Shoojit Sircar style.

If the popularity of the trailer on the social media platform is anything to go by, Piku is amongst the most anticipated films this year. While this film about a crazy father-daughter duo is packaged with ingredients that make for a perfect family comedy, director Shoojit Sircar seems to be bringing back the slice-of-life-cinema which was made popular by filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

A huge admirer of Mukherjee’s work, Shoojit explores a relatable story and human relationships reminiscent of Hrishikesh Mukherjee films like Gol Maal, Mili, Chupke Chupke, Guddi promising clean entertainment to the audiences after a long time.

First Day of Piku filming a De Niro-Pacino Moment for Shoojit Sircar

27 April 2015 11:17 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

It was something of an achievement for director Shoojit Sircar to bring megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan together in his upcoming film, Piku. The film also stars Deepika Padukone in the title role. Speaking about the cast, Shoojit says, “I tell everyone Irrfan is the only international star we have. I was skeptical the first day he and Mr. Bachchan met on the set. It was a Robert De Niro and Al Pacino moment for me. But it all went well. Apart from the Deepika-Irrfan pairing, it is also a delight to watch Irrfan and Mr. Bachchan together.”

The director also explains that by the end of the film, Irrfan became an avid admirer of Mr. Bachchan’s style of working. For Shoojit, Piku has been a unique experience as the film’s set became home to three different schools of acting. “All three of them are absolutely poles apart. »

Piku is an upcoming drama/comedy directed by Shoojit Sircar. Famed for the much acclaimed Vicky Donor, Shoojit will be seen for the very first time directing legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, as well as superstars Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. Based on a father/daughter relationship, the film is scheduled to release on 8 May and promises to be a fulfilling watch. The music has been composed by Anupam Roy, who also sings a lot of the songs in this too. So what did we think of the music to Piku? Read on to uncover our verdict!

First up we have ‘Bezubaan,’ sung by Anupam Roy. The song has a mellow feel to it, with a soft execution of instruments such as the piano and the guitar. Although the song is not very gripping, I can understand why it has been composed the way it has. Most likely it has been »

When Big B pulled Deepika’s leg!

22 April 2015 1:09 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’ , a roller coaster ride of a crazy father-daughter relationship essayed by Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone turned out to be more fun than expected , courtesy the warm equation the two actors shared on the sets.

While Deepika has often said that she considers Mr.Bachchan a father figure in real life, Mr.Bachchan too has mentioned that Deepika reminds him a lot of his real daughter Shweta. The warm equation the two shared off-screen , reflected beautifully in their on-screen chemistry.

The picture too shows yet another shade of their father-daughter equation.

For a certain scene in the film, Mr.Bachchan being the perfectionist that he is,kept asking a lot of questions to director Shoojit Sircar. Infact ,every time Deepika attempted to rehearse her lines with Bachchan , he enjoyed pulling her leg and went back to Shoojit with his queries.

Says Shoojit Sircar, “Mr Bachchan succeeded in pulling Deepika’s leg. »

14 April 2015 4:41 AM, PDT | GlamSham | See recent GlamSham news »

Sonakshi Sinha:Because of the over-protective nature of her father Shatrugun Sinha, Sonakshi hasn't been linked up or associated too much with boys, despite being in the entertainment industry. While her career is going steady, Sonakshi should also give some attention to her love life. »
