Since 1980, horror and sci fi fans have loved being scared by the Xenomorph and the soulless Weyland-Yutani corporation that wants to study it. Nearly everyone has controversial takes on various films in the franchise: "Prometheus" and Assembly Cut "Alien 3" fans, rise up. "Alien: Covenant" fans, look... we respect you, but that movie makes it tough. But no matter where you land, we're all in love with Ridley Scott's original "Alien." It's a love that's seen high school performances turn into breakout hits, and April 26th (chosen for the Lv-426 colony in "Aliens") become a fandom holiday.
We're always looking for more to explore from the franchise, although sometimes that desire turns into a be-careful-what-you-wish-for "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem" situation. Despite the valleys of the "Alien" franchise, we're still hoping for the best from the upcoming "Alien: Romulus" and Noah Hawley's forthcoming TV series from FX. Meanwhile, we...

At its core, the Alien franchise is easy to understand: people meet aliens, bad things happen. It’s a lot harder to keep track of when exactly these things occur.
Alien takes place in 2122, Aliens 57 years later, and then Alien 3 happens shortly afterwards. But then things get weird. Alien Resurrection jumps ahead 202 years, Prometheus begins sometime in prehistory and then in 2093, and Alien: Covenant is in 2104. Alien: Romulus will squeeze in between the first two movies, around 2142, which is 20 years after the original. And that’s not even going through the Alien vs Predator flicks or the countless games, books, and comics.
Then there’s the new Alien TV series coming from creator Noah Hawley, best known for the Fargo show and Legion. Deadline has confirmed the movie takes place about 30 years before the events of Alien, or as FX chief John Landgraf put it to THR, “near the...

Sandra Yi Sencindiver has joined the cast of FX’s Alien series, while some new details on its plot and setting have also emerged.
Ending a drought of about seven years, this August’s Alien: Romulus will be the first movie in the series since 2017’s Alien: Covenant. Beyond that, there’s FX’s TV series on the way, which is said to be due to air (or stream) in 2025.
As filming on the series continues in Thailand, a new member has been added to the cast: Sandra Yi Sencindiver, perhaps best known for her work on another sci-fi series, Foundation.
First reported by Deadline, the casting announcement also comes with some plot and setting details that, at least to our tiny minds, sound rather new. The outlet states that the series will “take place on Earth and has been reported to deal with the emergence of the story’s...

Back in 1979, director Ridley Scott was mostly unknown outside the realm of commercials, though that would quickly change with his second feature, “Alien.” At the time, those who got to see the movie probably didn’t realize they were watching a movie that would forever change horror and science fiction, as the movie introduced a number of deadly creatures, including the lethal alien of the title that would one day be relabelled, “xenomorph.”
45 years later, 20th Century is re-releasing the sci-fi/horror movie back into theaters for a limited time on April 26, dubbed “Alien Day,” as it will include limited edition posters and other special tie-in collectibles. This may have been prompted by the upcoming August release of filmmaker Fede (“Don’t Breathe”) Alvarez‘s “Alien: Romulus,” giving parent company Disney a doubly good reason to release the original movie back into theaters. Mahershala Ali has been attached to the Blade reboot for what seems like almost an eternity now. The actor’s casting was received very well. Most importantly, he is not a new face to Marvel fans, since he played Cottonmouth in Luke Cage.
The actor is very well-respected in the industry, owing to his charming personality and acting chops. However, his turn as the Daywalker in the Marvel reboot is still up in the air, with the production yet to take off. If rumors are to be believed, the film looks set to make yet another change, thereby raising questions about Ali’s possible MCU debut.

After the surprise success of District 9 in 2009, Neill Blomkamp was the new darling of the film industry. The original, intriguing, and thrilling film about aliens stranded on Earth came From the fallout of a failed attempt to get a movie based on the Halo videogame franchise off the ground. The film was nominated for 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, legitimizing Blomkamp as an innovative storyteller.
Blomkamp leveraged the success of District 9 to land a much larger budget for his next effort, 2013’s classism sci-fi Elysium. It was met with moderate critical and commercial success. He followed that up with the humbler and more intimate Chappie in 2015, which failed to impress critics or turn a profit, despite a cast with sci-fi pedigree, including Sigourney Weaver.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for episode 3 of "Star Trek: Discovery."
When it was announced that season 5 of "Discovery" would be its last, even the show's biggest and most loyal fans had to wonder exactly what showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise might have up their sleeves for one final adventure. That turned out to be no small thing, following the reveal that they would be following in the footsteps of a game-changing storyline in the canon first introduced in "The Next Generation" -- the so-called Progenitors and their role as, essentially, the creators of all sentient humanoid life in the galaxy. At its heart, "Trek" has always concerned itself with the most high-minded of ideas, routinely posing existential questions and philosophical debates. But as Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Book (David Ajala), and everyone else on board the USS Discovery race against time to put the pieces together for...

Last month, 20th Century Studios unveiled a teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise that is set to reach theatres on August 16th. (You can watch the teaser Here.) With the release date just four months away, Alien: Romulus received some love during the Disney panel at CinemaCon.
An exclusive extended scene from Alien: Romulus was screened a CinemaCon which followed Cailee Spaeny’s character wandering through a broken-down spaceship corridor with Aileen Wu’s character. They see a ripped-apart android among the debris. David Jonsson’s character, who is an android himself, is rebooting with an interesting effect in his eyes, but at that moment, a swarm of face-huggers burst into the room, chasing the characters out. We saw a bit of this scene in the teaser.

Director Fede Álvarez (2013's "Evil Dead") is looking to revitalize the "Alien" franchise with his new film: "Alien: Romulus." No, "Romulus" isn't hinting at a "Star Trek" crossover, but it does feature rising stars like Cailee Spaeney ("Priscilla") and Isabella Merced (2025's "Superman").
After the mood-setting first trailer for "Alien: Romulus" and some positive buzz (including recruiting the effects team from "Aliens" who built the Xenomorph Queen), /Film's Ryan Scott caught another glimpse of "Romulus" at CinemaCon during the presentation by 20th Century Studios' parent company, Disney.
Set between the events of 1979's "Alien" and 1986's "Aliens," the film features its young stars dodging aliens — from facehuggers to Xenomorphs — on an otherwise empty space station (I wouldn't guess it's "abandoned" since there could be other reasons why there are no humans on board). How will "Romulus" stand out next to the previous film in the franchise, 2017's "Alien: Covenant," or indeed the original film?...

In 1979, Ridley Scott unleashed the science fiction classic "Alien" upon audiences and unwittingly kickstarted a lucrative franchise comprised of seven sequels and an assortment of books, comics, and video games. In August 2024, Fede Álvarez plans to release "Alien: Romulus," which will hopefully push the series in a creative new direction, delivering more Xenomorph horror action for audiences to enjoy.
The "Alien" franchise has amassed $1.6 billion at the global box office, despite more than a few bumps. Films such as David Fincher's "Alien 3" and Scott's own "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" divided audiences with their strange methodology. In contrast, the "Alien vs Predator" films never amounted to more than cynical cash grabs. These sequels/prequels also retconned important lore or added new details to the Xenomorph that do not jibe with previously established material, leaving fans scrambling to make sense of the "Alien" timeline. Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. A while back, Scott Stuber, the head of Netflix Film, said they were developing a new standalone Fear Street project. Then Stine took to social media to reveal that the fourth Fear Street movie would be based on his 1992 book The Prom Queen… and now Fear Street: Prom Queen has a cast! This August will finally see the return of the “Alien” franchise with Fede Álvarez’s “Alien: Romulus.” Taking place between the events of the first two movies, last week’s ‘Romulus’ teaser trailer helped build some anticipation as the new installment takes place on a space station (an obvious inspiration from the video game “Alien: Isolation”). Actresses in the past, such as Noomi Rapace in “Prometheus” and Katherine Waterston in “Alien: Covenant,” have been compared to Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley, but new ‘Romulus’ star Cailee Spaeny tells Total Film she has big shoes to fill and won’t try replicating that character.

Consider this a rite of passage for the "Alien" franchise. Any time a new movie is set to debut, the most pressing question on the minds of fans typically manifests around how the Xenomorph design will look this time around. Every movie has brought its own twist on the formula of H.R. Giger's classic original conception, either opting for a more animalistic look (as in "Alien 3") or more like an unholy mash-up prototype (on display in both "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant") that mostly only hints at the well-known creature from the original. But arguably no director added to the lore and made it their own quite like James Cameron did with "Aliens," introducing the concept of the Xenomorph queen and reimagining the species as an insect-like hive.

Ridley Scott’s Alien is iconic in many ways. Not only was it a turning point for the action genre, but Sigourney Weaver became one of the first female actresses to classify as a major action hero. It set records straight and opened a new door of opportunities for the franchise itself. In the midst of this, sequels and spin-offs were made. While some were well received, others not so much.
Sigourney Weaver in Alien
The latest installment in the franchise, Alien: Romulus had a lot relying on it. To carry a legacy as big as that of Scott’s and appease the audience at the same time is no small feat. However, its attempt to honor the same may have also become its own bane.
There’s Only One Reason You Need to be Super Hyped up for ‘Alien: Romulus’ and it’s Not Ridley Scott

The production and set design are incredible – it’s a terrific combination of the Nostromo from the original 1979 film as well as the elevator from the 1986 sequel Alien.
In today’s interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Alvarez said of Ridley Scott and James Cameron:

The teaser arrived along with a poster and new stills from the much-anticipated, long-awaited eighth entry in the Alien franchise. Alien: Romulus is set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter director Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead) confirmed how it fits into the Alien universe.
“I love all of those movies. I didn’t want to omit or ignore any of them when it comes to connections at a story level, character level, technology level and creature level. There’s always connections from Alien to Alien: Covenant,” said Álvarez says.
The sci-fi film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and Aileen Wu.

With all due respect to any other upcoming movies and shows trying to carve out some time and space for themselves this week, good luck competing with the "Alien: Romulus" teaser that dropped earlier today. Like most "Alien" fans, we've been waiting with bated breath to see what horror filmmaker Fede Álvarez would have up his sleeves for this new installment of the classic franchise, and the footage certainly doesn't disappoint. (We would know since we've been watching it on a constant loop ever since.) Not only does the new film seem like a grand return to the 1979 original, but the newest director to the series is also saying all the right things. And for those of us with a soft spot for Ridley Scott's two divisive prequel movies in recent years, well, these new quotes are sure to be music to our ears.

It's been nearly seven years since Ridley Scott returned to the "Alien" franchise with the ever-divisive "Alien: Covenant." While we may not be getting a sequel to that film, Disney and 20th Century Studios are bringing the Xenomorphs back for another big-screen thrill ride in the form of this summer's "Alien: Romulus." Directed by Fede Alvarez, it looks like a return to the franchise's horror roots with new characters, a new ship, and familiar threats.
Alvarez recently spoke with Variety in honor of the recently released "Alien: Romulus" teaser trailer. The filmmaker was asked what he is bringing to the table for his film, which takes place 20 years after the events of the original 1979 sci-fi/horror classic. Alvarez, much like Ridley Scott and James Cameron before him, has a unique view of this universe. But his main goal? Make "Alien" scary again:

It’s been seven years since we saw the xenomorph on screen; Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” was not cutting it for audiences in 2017. But come August 16, the xenomorph (the terminology coined by James Cameron’s “Aliens”) returns in “Alien: Romulus” from horror director Fede Álvarez (“Don’t Breathe”). The first trailer arrived earlier today; apparently, all the “Alien” godfathers love this newest installment. Executive producer Ridley Scott (“Alien,” “Prometheus,” “Alien: Covenant”) watched an early director’s cut of the film and gave it a warm reception last year, saying, “Fede, what can I say?

A little over one decade after delivering their bold and blood-soaked entry of the Evil Dead franchise, director/co-writer Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues are bringing their scary good talents to a place where no one can hear you scream in 20th Century Studios' new film Alien: Romulus, and the teaser trailer and poster have been unveiled ahead of the movie's anticipated August 16th theatrical release.

Alien carnage ensues in the new trailer for Alien: Romulus, a standalone installment of the Alien franchise in theaters on August 16th.
The teaser trailer follows several young cadets onboard a spacecraft as they deal with an onslaught of creatures — some small, and some very, very large. The only dialogue in the teaser are panicked cries for help and confusion, and its violent undertones suggest a more horror-centric Alien film. Watch the chilling teaser trailer below.
Alien: Romulus was directed and co-written by Uruguayan horror aficionado Fede Álvarez and produced by original Alien director, Ridley Scott. The film’s official logline reads: “The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Cailee Spaeny has played American royalty in “Priscilla,” a futuristic photojournalist in Alex Garland’s upcoming “Civil War,” and now is leading the reboot of the iconic “Alien” franchise.
Spaeny is front and center in the teaser trailer for 20th Century Studios’ “Alien: Romulus,” set 20 years after the events of the 1979 original film that launched Sigourney Weaver’s action stardom. Spaeny plays scientist Rain Carradine, one of the young space colonizers that come face to face with the titular murderous alien while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.
“Madame Web” star Isabela Merced is in the cast, as are David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
“Romulus” is the seventh film in the “Alien” franchise — the ninth if you include the “Alien vs. Predator” crossover sci-fi action movies. “Alien” director Ridley Scott produces the film from writer/director Fede Alvarez, who co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues.

Alien: Romulus doesn’t hit theaters until August, but filmmaker Fede Álvarez already has the wind at his back. That’s because Ridley Scott and James Cameron — the highly regarded directors behind one of cinema’s ultimate one-two punches, Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) — have already proclaimed their love for Romulus, which takes place between their two films and very much connects to them. Today, Álvarez and Disney finally pulled back the curtain on the “interquel,” releasing a terrifying 62-second teaser trailer that re-establishes the look and feel of the franchise’s bona fide classics.

While Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” film series was basically killed off after its underperforming sequel, “Alien: Covenant,” clearly, 20 Century Studios believes the show must go on for the Alien/xenomorph franchise. And maybe it needs a cheaper cast to be cost-effective. Because both FX’s “Alien” series from Noah Hawley and the upcoming film, “Alien: Romulus” are A-list star-free, relying on new up-and-comers instead.

At the risk of barging too hot out the gate, I'm going to co-sign Chris Evangelista's argument for /Film that there are no bad "Alien" movies. Sure, the various follow-ups to Ridley Scott's classic 1979 original can be polarizing -- especially Scott's gothic prequel films "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" -- but they're never boring, and "Alien" itself remains the rare IP where each individual entry retains the hallmarks of the directors who made them. As though any other franchise would ever let Jean-Pierre Jeunet come in and make a no-holds-barred Jean-Pierre Jeunet sci-fi horror film like "Alien: Resurrection." Just sayin'.
For as much as I would've liked it if Scott got to finish telling the story of the beloved homicidal android David (Michael Fassbender) with his intended prequel trilogy finale "Alien: Awakening," I'm curious to see what Fede Álvarez comes up with playing in this particular sandbox. Director Fede Alvarez recently wrapped production on a new Alien film from 20th Century Studios that was originally intended to be released through the Hulu streaming service, but was then given an August 16, 2024 theatrical release date. (Here’s everything we know about that movie.) And that’s not the only new Alien project we have to look forward to. Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley has been developing an Alien TV series for “FX on Hulu” for the last couple years, and below you’ll find Everything We Know About the Alien TV Series!

One of the first things we heard about the Alien series – and one of the most surprising things about it – is that it will actually be set on Earth, a couple decades before the events of the first movie. FX chairman John Landgraf has said the show will take place “right near the end...

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a decade since the last film from Gore Verbinski, 2016’s A Cure for Wellness, but after being attached to a handful of projects, the director is finally looking to return. Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, and Juno Temple are attached to star in his next feature Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, Deadline reports.
Scripted by Matthew Robinson (Love & Monsters), the action-adventure film follows “a ‘man from the future’ (Rockwell) who arrives at a diner in Los Angeles where he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one-night-six-block quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence.” With production set to kick off this year in Cape Town, South Africa, expect a 2024 release.

Deadline reports that director Ridley Scott is in talks to direct an as-of-now untitled Bee Gees biopic for Paramount. A couple of years ago, Kenneth Branagh was reported to be directing this Bee Gees movie, and way back in 2010, there were rumors that Steven Spielberg might direct it.
According to the report, Scott has long wanted to make a movie with or about the Bee Gees, ever since the band's longtime manager Robert Stigwood worked with Scott on developing a movie with the band's members back in the 1970s. Though the movie fell apart, Scott has a chance now, nearly 50 years later, to tell the story of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The other big reason Scott is being attached to the project is that Paramount executives reportedly loved early footage of Scott's upcoming "Gladiator 2" and wanted to sign the prolific director for his next feature as quickly as possible.

Exclusive: With its movie Bob Marley: One Love now in theaters, Paramount Pictures is moving fast on another high-profile biopic on a popular music group and looks to have found an A-list director to lead the project. Scott will produce alongside producing partner Michael Pruss of Scott Free, Graham King through his Gk Films banner and Stacey Snider.
Paramount is distributing the film worldwide, with Amblin and Sister having the right to co-finance. Barry Gibb is executive producing. John Logan wrote the script.

Deadline reports that Ridley Scott is in negotiations to direct a movie about the Bee Gees, the iconic musical group formed by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb.

Up next from Wyrmwood writer/director Kiah Roache-Turner is a shark attack survival movie titled Beast of War, and Variety brings news that the shark horror movie has been acquired for distribution by Signature Entertainment for the U.K. and Ireland, and Well Go USA for North America.
The period Wii film is loosely based on real-life events.
Beast of War “follows a warship carrying hundreds of Australian soldiers across the Timor Sea to the frontline of WWII. Suddenly, Japanese fighter jets scream out of the sky, and within minutes the ocean becomes a hell of steel, fire, oil and blood. While a handful of soldiers build a makeshift raft from floating debris as they cling to their lives, their biggest battle is yet to come. In the dark below, the ultimate apex predator — a great white shark — hunts in the wreckage and is drawn to the smell of fresh blood in the water.

Disney has been in the headlines already in 2024 with the copyright for their first Mickey Mouse cartoon, Steamboat Willie, falling into the public domain. The studio powerhouse had a pretty flat 2023 as just about every big release from them underperformed at the box office. They are hoping to shake that off and hit 2024 running. What can we expect from the House Of Mouse this year? Let’s take a look at the Disney 2024 release schedule.

“What happens when Weyland is not around to program you anymore?” archeologist Elizabeth Shaw asks the android David.

The question gives the android pause. “Want? Not a concept I’m familiar with,” he answers. “That being said, doesn’t everyone want their parents dead?”
Conversations such as this one between Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender) recur throughout Prometheus, directed by Ridley Scott and written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. For his first movie in the franchise since the original Alien, Scott had little interest in more xenomorphs or any of the deep-space thrills of his previous installment. Decades after making the sci-fi horror classic Alien, director Ridley Scott returned to the Alien franchise with the intention of making a series of prequels that would tell us all about the “Space Jockey” and the creation of the xenomorph. The mythology Scott presented in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant didn’t sit well with a lot of fans – and when Alien: Covenant underwhelmed and underperformed, his prequel series came to an early end. Now the franchise is set to continue with a new film directed by Fede Alvarez and an “FX on Hulu” TV series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley… and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley confirmed that he’s one of the fans who wasn’t very impressed by the story told in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. So don’t expect to see nods to the mythology or technology of those films in the TV show.

It sounds as though Noah Hawley’s Alien TV series will render the events of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant non-canon. We look at what it all could mean.
Nb: The following contains spoilers for Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
Here’s a tense scenario: as the showrunner of an upcoming TV show, you have to tell Ridley Scott – seldom one to mince his words – that the story you have planned will essentially jettison two of his movies.
What would Scott say? What would he do? Should you wear a fire-retardant suit? A crash helmet perhaps?
Incredibly, it sounds as though the multi-talented writer-director (and singer) Noah Hawley did exactly this in recent months, and somehow lived to tell the tale.
The upcoming TV show in question is Hawley’s hotly-anticipated Alien series, set in the universe Scott first established in 1979. Featuring the likes of Essie Davis and Timothy Olyphant among its ensemble cast,...

“Fargo” showrunner Noah Hawley teased his new FX series “Alien” in a recent interview with Kcrw’s The Business.
Though plot details are being kept under wraps, Hawley’s “Alien” series is set on Earth and roughly 70 years in future, predating the original film series.
Hawley was asked whether or not he would incorporate the backstory in Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” (2012) and “Alien: Covenant” (2017) into his FX series. The prequel films included a controversial backstory where the aliens were manufactured as a bioweapon by a mysterious race known as the Engineers.
“Ridley and I have talked about this — and many, many elements of the show,” Hawley said. “For me, and for a lot of people, this ‘perfect life form’ — as it was described in the first film — is the product of millions of years of evolution that created this creature that may have existed for a million years out there in space.
Though plot details are being kept under wraps, Hawley’s “Alien” series is set on Earth and roughly 70 years in future, predating the original film series.

Emmy winner Noah Hawley is teasing his highly anticipated FX Alien prequel series.
The Fargo showrunner was recently interviewed by Kcrw’s The Business, hosted by Hollywood Reporter Editor-At-Large Kim Masters.
Hawley was asked by interviewer Eric Deggans about Alien, which is set on Earth about 70 years into the future, predating the feature film franchise.
Right out of the gate, Hawley showed his understanding of the franchise by giving a rather perfect description of what Alien is really about: “The thing with Alien is that it’s not just a great monster movie. It’s the story of humanity trapped between its primordial parasitic past and its AI future, and they’re both trying to kill us. So, there’s nowhere to go. It’s really a story of does humanity deserve to survive? Does humanity’s arrogance in thinking that we’re no longer food and its arrogance in...

Fargo creator Noah Hawley is making an Alien TV series for “FX on Hulu”, and the show started filming in Bangkok, Thailand last year – but then, after a month, production had to be paused to wait out the Screen Actors Guild strike. That strike is now over, and Alien is expected to resume filming any day now. As production revs back up, Deadline has learned that Moe Bar-El, whose previous credits include The Peripheral, Better, Femme, and Count Abdulla, has been cast in a recurring role. They just weren’t able to dig up any details on the role he’ll be playing.
Bar-El joins previously announced cast members Sydney Chandler (Pistol) as the meta-human Wendy, who has the body of an adult, but the brain and consciousness of a child; Essie Davis (The Babadook) as Dame Silvia, Alex Lawther (The End of the F*cking World) as a soldier named Cj,...

Chinese studio Bona Film Group has struck a deal with U.S. financier Tsg Entertainment Finance to invest in a slate of upcoming Hollywood franchise movies. The deal is understood to include upcoming “Avatar” and “Deadpool” titles.
The agreement, signed on Dec. 31, is described as an extension and expansion of a relationship between Bona and Tsg that began in 2015. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Through the earlier deal Bona committed to providing $235 million to co-invest with Tsg in a slate of films including “The Martian,” “Independence Day: Resurgence,” “The Greatest Showman,” “War for the Planet of the Apes,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Alien: Covenant” and “X-Men: Apocalypse,” most of which were distributed through 20th Century Fox.
Such co-investment slate financing deals tend to provide studios with a degree of risk management. The financiers are mostly passive investors who have little or no say in the film’s creative process,...
