NO SPOILERS - Two Female Strangers Become Roommates, Let the Drama Ensue

I was ready for sleep when I started the movie. The film was so methodically well-paced, I just couldn't shut my eyes for more than a few seconds and then I was engrossed. Each scene built on the last & it didn't take long to see both characters had some issues. Some were readily apparent, while others were suspected and masterfully unveiled.

The setting was NYC, or as Pacino exclaimed in "Devil's Advocate", "FREAK SHOW CENTRAL". Truthfully, none of the characters were exceptionally flawed, & I believe that as is the case for most people, the redeeming qualities always seem to outweigh perceived "imperfections". As a trained Mental Health Therapist I was taught to seek & identify both. I won't give away any diagnoses here, though I'm sure I could. And that's not giving anything away, because under the microscope everyone has "issues" that can easily be labeled as mental illness. If you disagree, I submit you may be a narcissist :)

The viewing experience was like someone slowly & steadily pulling back the curtain covering a beautiful portrait of two women. One characters history came fairly early, while the other's came towards the end. I suspect that is one of the elements that make this movie so gripping.

Lastly, I think the major achievement of this film was the suspense created by the complete and total unpredictability of each character's emotional response. That is the element that made me wake up & controlled my interest. It was a good movie & I glad I watched it. The script, director & actors all did exceptionally. I can't go as far as saying it is a movie that MUST be seen, but I don't think you will regret it or be able to turn it off either.

I give "Imagine I'm Beautiful" a very solid 7/10 stars, I project other's ratings to be in the range of 5-8/10. It is not rated, but an R rating is most appropriate due to one instance of brief nudity, sexual material, & adult themes.
