- Sharon Raydor's introduction as the new head of Major Crimes comes awkwardly at a grocery store shootout where a surrendered gunman is executed while in police custody.
- The Major Crimes squad investigates an attempted robbery that led to several deaths, including some of the thieves. With Assistant Chief Johnson now retired, Lt. Provenza becomes the senior investigating officer. Newly promoted Assistant Chief Taylor is soon on the scene, as is Captain Sharon Raydor who, Taylor announces to everyone, now heads Major Crimes. Needless to say, this does not sit well with most members of the team. Matters only get worse when the one gunman arrested at the scene is killed while sitting in a police car awaiting transportation to the station. That event sets them on the path to solving the crime.
