Marvel’s Runaways casts Julian McMahon

It looks like Julian McMahon will be returning to the Marvel universe. The actor has been cast in Marvel’s upcoming Hulu series Runaways as a man named Jonah. While his origins and ultimate intentions are unknown, McMahon will be a pivotal player in the Runaways’ rebellion against their parents.

“We’re incredibly excited to add Julian to our exceptional cast and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the world of Marvel’s Runaways,” said Executive Producers and Showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

McMahon is known for his roles in Nip/Tuck and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, but Marvel fans will also know him as Victor Von Doom, better known as Doctor Doom, in Fantastic Four and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Marvel-Hulu Series ‘Runaways’ Casts Julian McMahon (Exclusive)

The upcoming Hulu series “Marvel’s Runaways” has added Julian McMahon to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series follows the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against their parents when the kids discover they are part of an evil underground organization. McMahon will play Jonah. While his origins and ultimate intentions are unknown, he is a pivotal player in the main characters’ rebellion against their parents.

“We’re incredibly excited to add Julian to our exceptional cast and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the world of Marvel’s ‘Runaways,'” said executive producers and showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’ Sneak Peek Hints at Season 2 Case

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” was one of the final pop culture pieces to present at San Diego Comic-Con this year, but fans of the BBC America sci-fi series were not left disappointed.

That’s because a new sneak peek for Season 2 has officially dropped, featuring stars Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, and Jade Eshete.

In the clip, Barnett’s titular Dirk finds himself held captive in some sort of futuristic prison. Wood and Eshete then break into the building in an attempt to rescue their eccentric friend — complete with their same masks from Season 1. Unfortunately, it turns out just to be a bad dream with Dirk remaining in the clutches of his captors.

Dirk Gently” is based on novels by Douglas Adams, the beloved British author who wrote “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” Max Landis created, primarily wrote, and exec produced the series.

Six Filmmakers Making ‘Bushwick Beats’ Brooklyn Drama

Bushwick Beats,” a new film set in Bushwick, Brooklyn, that explores the topic of unconditional love and the power of love in the face of adversity, has started filming, Variety has learned exclusively.

The film is a product of six different filmmakers pooling their personal experiences and talents for the development of a film that embodies six different stories tied together by music and the evolving urban landscape of Bushwick.

Producers are Julie Christeas of Tandem Pictures and Lawrence Mattis of Circle of Confusion, as well as by Katerina Yarotskaya and Aleksey Ageyev of Big Green Alien, who is also providing financing for the picture.

Filming will wrap up in three weeks on July 30. Local artists and musicians will work together with established actors to mirror the eclectic and diverse community of Bushwick, Brooklyn.

BBC America will host the final Doctor Who panel with star Peter Capaldi on July 23.

The beloved British sci-fi series was part of BBC America’s first slate of TV shows presented at Comic-Con six years ago.

The panel will feature Capaldi, Pearl Mackie, Matt Lucas, Michelle Gomez, writer and actor Mark Gatiss and showrunner Steven Moffat.

‘Fleabag’ Creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge Bringing Spy Series ‘Killing Eve’ To BBC America

BBC America is emerging as one of the networks making some very original and different series. “Orphan Black” has been a mainstay on the channel, and has a dedicated fanbase and a good amount of critical acclaim. “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” hasn’t been around very long, but most definitely falls under that aforementioned “different” category. Now, BBC America is gearing up production on another series titled “Killing Eve.”

Killing Eve” is based on a series of novellas by Luke Jennings, and tells the story of a psychopathic assassin and the woman hunting her down.
