‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Expected to “Go on for a While”

48 minutes ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

For fans of sci-fi and Star Trek in general, the upcoming launch of Star Trek: Discovery is an exciting time. It’s also exciting for CBS, as the series is expected to be a major draw for the CBS All-Access streaming platform. Either way, the series is already making money for the company, with president and CEO Les Moonves telling shareholders that the series is already profitable due to licensing and international deals (along with a nice bump in CBS All-Access subscriptions). The profitability comes before Discovery has even started production. Because of this early success (and looking ahead to to

Boldly Go On An Adventure With This 16-Minute Journey Through 50 Years Of ‘Star Trek’

29 July 2016 10:53 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

It’s kind of incredible just how long the “Star Trek” brand has managed to endure without ever really lapsing into outright awfulness. Sure, there was a bit of a lull period in the late ’90s and early ’00s, with mostly forgettable entries like ‘Insurrection‘ and ‘Nemesis‘ indicating that there was no longer a captain steering […]

26 July 2016 5:15 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

When it comes to real-world politics, “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner can be as ruthless as her Westeros rival, Cersei Lannister. “I hope certain politicians wouldn’t do well in the world of ‘Game of Thrones,'” she said in an interview with TheWrap Tuesday. “I would quite like to bring some of them in just to slaughter them. But unfortunately that can’t be done nowadays.” “So yeah. Go on, Hillary,” she added with a laugh. Beyoncé and Blue Ivy in Matching Dresses May Overwhelm You With Cuteness

26 July 2016 11:20 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Beyoncé and Jay Z are currently in Paris with their 4-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, and in addition to bringing the little one for a stroll through the Tuileries Garden on Tuesday, Beyoncé also shared a handful of sweet photos on her personal blog. Blue and her famous mom look adorable in their matching floral dresses while posing, jumping, and blowing kisses to the camera with the Eiffel Tower as their backdrop - casual. Beyoncé performed at the Stade de France as part of her Formation World Tour over the weekend, and one moment from the concert went viral; a young girl was spotted playing Pokémon Go on her phone as Beyoncé performed, and a few of her fellow show-goers in the front row were not having it. The singer is expected to take the stage in Frankfurt, Germany, on Tuesday evening, so hopefully fans will be a bit more attentive. »

Robot Wars interview: presenter Angela Scanlon

Louisa Mellor Jul 25, 2016

We chat with one of the new Robot Wars presenters about carnage and camaraderie behind the scenes on the revived BBC Two show...

Read our review of the first episode of the revived Robot Wars, here.

Irish broadcaster and journalist Angela Scanlon makes up one half of the new Robot Wars presenting team. For the next few weeks, she and Dara O'Briain will be talking viewers through the hyper-competitive world of flippers, pushers and spinners at 8pm on Sundays on BBC Two as the destruction-happy show counts down to its final battle.

Move over Top Gear, there's a new sheriff in town...

We love Robot Wars. I think because it showcases the best and worst of humanity, our ingenuity and our bloodthirsty desire to destroy things.

[Laughs] Me too! That is a perfect, perfect summary of the show.

Tell us about the relationships between the teams. You’ve »

Watch Celine Dion Spoof Cher, Rihanna, Sia on 'Fallon'

Celine Dion stopped by The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to play "Wheel of Musical Impressions" with Fallon. The game occurred after she expressed joy for Ariana Grande's famous impression of Dion.

Dion appeared a bit nervous at the beginning of the game where she would have to perform a random song in the style of a random artist. She hit the button and had to perform "Frère Jacques" in the style of her friend Cher. Dion hit Cher's deep warble while also adding a bit of sass »

Great Job, Internet!: Even fictional characters are obsessed with Pokémon Go

20 July 2016 2:30 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Now that the sixth season of Game Of Thrones is over, Pokémon Go has emerged as the latest pop culture distraction to fill our lives with mashups, memes, and more. The YouTube channel Darth Blender has provided a veritable cornucopia of such jokes in a two-minute video called “Pokémon Go–Hollywood.” Set to the theme song from the Pokémon TV show, the video lets fictional characters from Frank Underwood to Indiana Jones to Bella Swan reveal their deep-seated passion for pocket monsters.

Admittedly, the conceit of the video is a little fuzzy. Sometimes the characters are playing Pokémon Go on their various devices. Other times they’re interacting with Pokémon and Pokéballs in the real world. Problems with internal logical aside, the video is worth it just for the image of Tom HanksBridge Of Spies character freaking out over an Onix. Darth Blender even suggests a possible explanation for »

Editorial: Is Going To The Movies Worth It Anymore?

20 July 2016 9:49 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

"I still like theaters, look at all this space I have to myself."

Going to the movie theater doesn’t have the same magic that it once did for me. Don’t get me wrong, movies (for the most part) are still worth seeing. But, the experience of going to the movies doesn’t hold the same value it once did. If you were going by the average cost of tickets and concession stands, apparently it’s gone up in value. But, almost everyone I’ve heard discuss the current movie going experience seems to feel the opposite way.

Date night (New York City): 2 x Movie Tickets = $31.98 ($43.98 for IMAX 3D), 1 Large Popcorn = $8.15, 1 Large Soda = $6.31 (let’s assume you share to be romantic). See that? You just dropped $46.44 before the government even stepped in and got their cut. So, the question is “Is seeing this two and a half hour movie worth about $18.50 an hour? »

Pokemon Go Labelled ‘Extremely Inappropriate’ At Us Holocaust Museum

13 July 2016 6:51 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Pokemon Go, despite its astronomical success since launching last week, isn’t winning everyone over, it seems. Various historic locations in Washington are warning players not to play the augmented reality game if they decide to visit.

The BBC reports that officials for both the Us Holocaust Memorial Museum and Arlington National Cemetery are taking steps to discourage people from playing within the walls of either establishment, with the former labelling such a move as “Extremely inappropriate.”

Unfortunately for both landmarks, it appears as if each is marked as a Pokestop in-game, meaning that when players visit them, they gain access to various benefits such as medicine and candy to boost the stats of owned Pokemon. Both institutions, it’s reported, are attempting to get the markers removed from the game.

While they are yet to experience any issues, officials for Arlington Cemetery are proactively taking steps to stop aspiring Pokemon Masters, »

Movie Couples Who Never Dated in Real Life (But Should Have)

11 July 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio just make sense. Clearly, they think so too, considering that the actors worked together twice more after their star-making turns as star-crossed lovers in 1997's Titanic. No ship could sink the love between Rose and Jack in James Cameron's epic (even if only one of them survived). Heck, even Celine Dion—who sang "My Heart Will Go On"—is still shipping the iconic characters 19 years later. Off-screen, Kate and Leonardo have remained constants in each other's lives. In fact, after her first two marriages ended in divorce, it was Leonardo who gave Kate away to Ned Rocknroll. And though Kate and Leonardo's fans had hoped they secretly got together »
