‘American Idol’: Charlie Puth, Lionel Richie in Advanced Talks to Join as Judges

‘American Idol’: Charlie Puth, Lionel Richie in Advanced Talks to Join as Judges
The “American Idol” revival may be close to rounding out its panel of judges.

Charlie Puth and Lionel Richie are in advanced talks to join Katy Perry on the judges’ panel, sources confirm to Variety. Country singers Luke Bryan and Keith Urban, an “Idol” veteran, are being considered as well.

ABC is also deliberating whether to have four judges on its panel. The series has traditionally had only three, with the exceptions of Seasons 8, 9, and 12.

This isn’t the first time Richie has been in talks with ABC to judge a singing competition show. In 2012, he dropped out of the network’s short-lived “Duets” before it premiered, being replaced by John Legend.

ABC’s revival of the long-running Fox series has been slowly taking shape since it was announced in May. Perry was revealed to be a judge shortly after the deal at ABC was made, and is currently the only official judge announced.

Kelly Clarkson Joins ‘The Voice’ Season 14 as Coach (Exclusive)
Kelly Clarkson will join NBC’s “The Voice” as a coach for season 14, Variety has learned.

The pop star and season-one “American Idol” champion will join longtime coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine for the NBC talent-competition series’ spring 2018 cycle. The Voice Predictions: Who's Most Likely to Win Season 11?
It’s been a long time between drinks for Blake Shelton — at least if we’re talking about the last time The Voice‘s winning-est coach saw one of his artists take home first prize. Indeed, you’d have to go back to Craig Wayne Boyd’s victory in Season 7 — almost two years ago — for that particular milestone.

American Idol: where would country music be without it?

From Carrie Underwood to Kellie Pickler, the talent show unearthed a plethora of country music talents until The Voice came along and took up its mantle

Fox executives announced on Monday that the network’s one-time ratings juggernaut American Idol would officially conclude after its 15th season next year. The news was hardly a shock for fans of the show. After years of consistent ratings decline, a constantly rotating judges’ panel that never quite recovered from Simon Cowell’s departure, and a marketplace flooded with rival reality singing competitions like The Voice, American Idol was well past its prime. Even so, for an Idol junkie like me (I’ve watched the show since season one, when Kelly Clarkson was crowned America’s newest pop princess), there was more than a little heartache in the announcement.

American Idol, despite its detractors, has launched true superstars. This is something that the Us
