Trivia

The dialogue of Scott claiming he wrote The Matrix (1999) is based off of a friend the writer Andrew Matthews had who made the same claim back in High School. Even with the proof offered (similar to what Miles says to Scott), the friend still boasts about "his" creation of The Matrix. See more »

An absolute delight
9 October 2013 | by (Portland, OR (USA)) – See all my reviews

I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed this movie. I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination (last game system I owned was NES as a kid) but I know people into these dice games and found this movie a pure delight. The second it ended I watched it again, that's how much I enjoyed it.

In short, this movie is about a Game Master who clearly loves the craft of his 3 year long game and his circle of friends who are involved in the game. When a new member joins the game, it brings out the ugly and controlling side in the Game Master and his life spins out of control and it treads into some surprisingly serious and sad moments, but it's so heartfelt. His family life is spiraling out of control, his job sucks, his friends turn on him. When it rains it pours. Zero Charisma is never mean for the fun of it, it seems very real yet stitched into this storyline is some of the best humor I've seen in recent memory. The dynamic of friendships is always complex and this movie so perfectly nails it.

I really cannot recommend this enough. If you like anything from Clerks to Napoleon Dynamite to Fan Boys to Role Models I think you'll find something really special in this movie. I saw a thanks list of Indie Gogo supporters at the end credits which made me realize this is actually an indie labor of love, but the quality of this movie is very professional. Just a fantastic movie, I'm really glad there are people out there making quality movies like this and I hope they don't stop. Proud to support this movie.
