This is a little Victorian boy,Oliver, who killed himself after causing his younger brother's death playing hide and seek. It becomes apparent that Hatch has sent Oliver to the trio as a trap and, though the child successfully passes over, having admitted to Alex that he was bait, she is warned that 'He Will Rise.' Rook meanwhile grooms Ian Crumb to do his bidding. Written by don @ minifie-1

Alex gets spooked by a ghost!
11 February 2013 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

One would have thought that Alex wouldn't be worried about ghosts, being one herself, but when she discovers that the house has been haunted by the ghost of a young boy who had been hiding since he died eighty years previously she is more than a little disturbed. It turns out he continues to feel guilty about the death of his younger brother and fears that 'The Men with Sticks and Rope' are after him. Alex tries to help him but by doing so she could be putting herself in danger. Meanwhile at the Barry Grand Hotel the mysterious Captain Hatch suggests that they should hold an Employee of the Month competition. This is part of a plan to get Hal and Tom arguing as Tom is keen to show that he can do the job as well as Hal. Elsewhere the vampire Hal made in the last episode is allowed to feed in an attempt to prevent the closure of the Mr. Rook's department.

There was a great mix of comedy and horror in this episode... watching Hal and Tom's competition lead to a food fight in the hotel dining room was very funny and the arrival of the 'Men with Sticks and Rope' was genuinely creepy, as was the sight of blood following down the face of the hotel manageress as Hatch tells her his plans. The story of the young ghost provided a nice stand alone story which managed to link with the main plot arc; the boundary between this world and the next is starting to decay and it is clear that Hatch is behind it. Phil Davis does a fine job as one of series best villains; he is a great addition to the cast. The three protagonists' characters continue to develop and their actors do well in their roles. As the episode came to an end I was left eager to find out what was going to happen next; both with Hatch and Rook's activities.
