Storyline

Rachel Gladstein, a shy little nine year old girl, loved by her cynic father and stifled by a possessive Jewish mother, meets at the start of classes Valérie, a fearless and shameless girl of her age. Rachel, influenced by her new girl friend, engages in turn to profanity, indecent gestures and nonsense, and opens up to life. She sleeps with her satchel on her back on the eve of the new school year, and must consult with the psychologist Ms. Trebla who will enter her privacy. In parallel, a friendship develops between the parents of the two girls, particularly between Michael Gladstein and Catherine, the divorced mother of Valérie. The nascent jealousy of Rachel's mother in the face of this closeness will bring her to question her own couple, which suffers from routine and weariness. Written by yeish hleb (gg)

"Charmingly humorous, literary and affectionate..."
23 April 2013 | by (Norway) – See all my reviews

French screenwriter, author and director Carine Tardieu's second feature film which she co-wrote with French author Raphaële Moussafir, is an adaptation of a novel from 2006 by Raphaële Mousaffir called "Du Vent Dans Mes Mollets". It premiered in France, was shot on location in France and is a French production which was produced by producers Fabrice Goldstein and Antoine Rein. It tells the story about a 9-year-old girl named Rachel Goldstein who has moved in to a house with her mother named Colette who is a doctor, her father named Michel who is a fitter and her grandmother. Shortly after starting at a new school, Rachel befriends a girl in her class named Valérie who lives with her older brother and single mother named Catherine, and is taken to a psychiatrist named Madame Trebla by her mother.

Subtly and intimately directed by French filmmaker Carine Tardieu, this finely paced fictional tale which is narrated by the main character and from multiple viewpoints, draws an involving portrayal of a primary school pupil who whilst discovering that her teacher named Danielle has a secret becomes more interested in boys. While notable for it's naturalistic milieu depictions, sterling production design by production designer Jean-Marc Tran Tan Ba, fine cinematography by French cinematographer Antoine Monod, costume design by costume designer Mélanie Gautier and variation between the children's and the adults point of view, this character-driven and dialog-driven story depicts a heartrending and conscientious study of character and contains a good score by composer Eric Slabiak.

This conversational, romantic and tangible drama about the rites of passage which is set during a summer in France where a poignant friendship between two French girls begins and where the mother of the protagonist begins worrying about her relationship with her husband after he becomes acquainted with the mother of their daughter's friend as he is fixing her kitchen, is impelled and reinforced by it's cogent narrative structure, subtle character development, endearing characters, multiple perspectives, scenes of the two children playing with flowers and humane acting performances by child actresses Juliette Gombert and Anna Lenarchand, French writer and actor Denis Podalydès, French screenwriter, actress and director Agnès Jaoui and French actress Isabelle Carre. A charmingly humorous, literary and affectionate narrative feature.
